Eyetoy PS3 MIA?

The card game itself is pretty standalone and according to people, fun. So you're correct to say that PS Eye is not needed. But the "augmented reality" concept is fascinating and has never been done in mass market before.
Sony really needed a virtual pet though, especially for the Japanese market. Think Pikmin, Harvest Moon and Tamagotchi/Furbies, and Black and White. And Nintendogs. The gameplay and interaction elements could go down a storm to the whole virtual pet and creature raising fans. I'm sure Nintendo would have a killer experience using augmented reality with Pokemon!

I've been thinking the exact same thing. Though technically, they do have something like that in a PSN game that is available now, somehow I don't think it's making the most of its potential. ;) (still curious to try it though!)

Which game? The creatures game looked intriguing. I've only seen small vids. The game looks incredible primitive, dragging the creatures through the tunnel it seems, although the visuals look pretty awesome.

My nearest BB sold all their EoJ copies yesterday morning (They only had 4). Had to drive 17 miles to another BB to get mine. They had 10 when I got there. I was the first one (They were still unloading the game to their storeroom). There are claims that Eye of Judgment is undershipped, but I wouldn't be so quick to declare that.

Hopefully Sony continues the momentum by leading it back to core PS3 experiences (close the loop man !).

EDIT: This should be a slow moving SKU because it sells to a very limited segment (for now anyway). And yes, virtual pet should be fun.

I can't for the life of me find any impressions on the game, but look at this video and pay attention that there is someone in the background, and he's touching and moving the watersurface in 3d with his fingertips:

I'd be interested to know what else you can do ...

That's cool interaction. These titles haven't been getting any coverage sadly. That may be Sony's fault for not offering them to reviewers or presenting them at shows, but now they're out (or very nearly) I'd have thought someone would be giving them some coverage, if just for the originality.

Actually, AquaVita is total crap. It's a shame that Sony even wants money for this. It's nothing more than a screensaver with a minimum of interactivity (basically, scare off some fish by waving your hands, which only works once in a while).

In the youtube video, you can move your fingertips through the finger surface in quite an interesting way. Even if that's all you can do, for me its interesting at least technologically. I've already spent the required 1.95 or whatever it is on it, and am interested in seeing how it turns out - still waiting to get the PS Eye, or someone who's actually willing to tell us in a little more detail and precision what you can do with this thing. ;)

I'd love you to do a small review of the 4 PSN Eyetoy titles ... Or are they simply not out yet in the US?

It's not out on the US PSN I think. I'm also away from work for the past 2 days.

I begin to see the irony of putting a playstation at work.

I will probably get the Tori screen saver just for kicks.

However nothing makes me more happy than pulling an innocent bystander into the gaming market:

Of late, I've been getting together with friends and normal card games are now too boring as they've played them too much and there's way too much chance involved. There was a bit of interest with Pokemon but with all those rules to learn (and Pokemon's not even a complicated CCG!) it's proven too much for people to stick with. The actual market for a card game with this degree of depth is there I think. It's somewhere between Uno that everyone can play (a surprising rebadgeing of Black Jack as played with normal cards, which goes to show what a bit of brand identity can get you!) and chess, and without the management overhead of normal CCG, and can see interest improving. IMO the biggest problem is actually stigma, where people might see it as a kids' or nerd activity. That and the ghastly soundtrack!

Yeah, but I read you can turn off the soundtrack in the options, so that's easily solved. Hopefully we do get custom soundtracks - I can personally have two different sound inputs going, but custom soundtracks can be convenient. I don't care for them very often, but for this game it could be good and I currently have the TV's sound rigged to the stereo because it's a great 5.1 to Pro Logic II converter.

Eye of Judgement is completely awesome... takes me back to my Magic days, but it's quite fresh. Showed a friend of mine (old Magic opponent) and he's considering the PS3 for this game alone. And surprisingly, my girlfriend and I have played like ten games against each other... and she's no nerd, that's for sure. Granted I don't think she would have been interested if not for seeing me and my friend play, but IMO there's little to no "embarrassment factor" with EoJ.

Just had to rave about this game some. Now, if only I could get a stable online connection to the EoJ servers...

I can only try out Eye of Judgment during Thanksgiving week. For one, the setup is elaborate and I need some time to clear up the mess here. And then, I am a little scared of getting sucked into yet another addictive game right now.

xbd, are the bundled cards enough for 2 players, or did you buy more booster packs ?

For two players you'd need more booster packs, although player vs the computer is plenty fun until those booster packs are acquired. I've already spent a fair bit of money on boosters, so on one hand you may want to stay away if you fear getting sucked in... but on the other, it's worth getting sucked into! :)
