I added NPD October and November to worldwide numbers...those are the results. 7.13 PS3 and 6.12 360.

Man this is getting confusing... Does those numbers include worldwide at the end of september+npd October and November+ japanese sales up to the end of november or what?

X360 probably gained 0.7 to 1.0 million in december in NA compared to PS3 and seems to have sold quite a lot more in Europe during the last three months also. So to me it looks like it pulled ahead by a nice margin.

Yeah it's the Microsoft and Sony numbers up to September plus October and November numbers.

0.7-1.0 in December?

I'm not really happy with any of these numbers, they just don't make sense lol

I'm guessing at most, the 360 will outsell the PS3 by 800k in December's NPD, I'm thinking it will be more around 600k-650k. Depending on what happened in Europe+'Other' during Oct. - Dec., I find it unlikely that MS pulled ahead by that much considering the PS3 had a 1.01m lead.

Yeah but your estimated numbers are shipped numbers are they not? Causing some confusion here.

Well the NPD numbers coming on my birthday next thursday :))) are going to be very interesting... Sony seems to be claiming 130% growth, which would be quite an astonishing number, but it seems unlikely... 30% sounds more reasonable. Vgchartz has usually overtracked PS3 and they are saying little over 700k for PS3 in December for NA, but they often mess up big time, so I quess we will have to wait till next week.

When NPD does release then VGChart as usual will correct there guess work.

They say 130% since Black Friday over the rest of the year...not sure how they worked that out. Can we work backwards with previous numbers and get a guestimate?

How do Euro sales figures compare to US sales in general? I always thought that US was considered the most important region with regards to consoles but looking at the sales figures in this thread (and also another recent thread that showed a graph with europe as having significantly more sales than other regions) it doesent add up.
Are there other factors in play that make one region more important than others such as strength of currency or other non-financial reasons?

Also,

They were at 4.8m Jan-Sep, so that's 5.5m Oct-Dec

Hold on, hold on. I'm getting confused now. Where's this 10.3 million for 2008 from? Lucid Dreamer says that for 28 million the Xbox 360 must have sold 9.3 million.

What are the LTD numbers up to Dec 2007? And what percentage does Europe and Others have?

Aaron Greenberg told Edge in a phone interview that the company sold 10.3 million Xbox 360s throughout the year.

Lucid was just counting the average sales per year. In all honesty it's not very accurate to combine shipped to retail and sold to customers numbers together. a console might be counted twice that way and another sold could be counted 0 times. So only only one calculation method should be used in one calculation.

The quarterly numbers from MS this year would be 1.3, 1.3, 2.2, and if they're at 28, 5.5..so yes, 10.3 this year is correct

Europe was the biggest market for the PS2, according to units sold. Financially it might be a different matter, depending on price, exchange rates etc.

From the quote I posted. Aaron Greenberg conducted a phone interview with Edge, which is posted on the Edge website, in which he claimed the 360 sold 10.3m consoles in 2008.

Nope, North America has slightly more PS2's sold than Europe. I dont have a link, but I do recall it. Xbox will be even more slanted towards NA in general since it's less popular in Europe. 360 NPD until end Nov was 12.5m I think, and MS just said in EMEA or whatever which is Europe and Middle East they were at 8m.

And people, when MS talks sold they mean shipped. But all manufacturers now mean sold to retail when they say shipped, it's much closer to truly sold than it used to be. When Greenburg says they sold 10.3m in 08, it's how many they shipped.

MS exact ship numbers 08 are:
1Q=1.3m 2Q=1.3m 3Q=2.2m. We dont have 4Q, but we knew they were at 22.5 shipped total, now they say they are at 28. So obviously 4Q=5.5m. 1.3+1.3+2.2+5.5=10.3.

And no, this is not overshipped. Overshipped was Xbox's 2006..were they rushed to hit 10m first, and ended up shipping next to nothing the next two Q's. This time the actual sales are a good deal higher (via NPD, and the gaudy Euro increases they've boasted of)

O.K. I get that they're talking about shipped numbers, but where are their PS3 numbers from? There's no way they could know PS3 shipped numbers unless Sony told them.

They bumped the Xbox 360 to 5.5 million in the fourth quarter, why wouldn't Sony ship an equally over-the-top amount?
