DriveClub by Evolution Studios [PS4]

Ah yes now I get it. It looks like a bug and the yellow line is reflected on the tyre for whatever reason. Haven't noticed it in my time on photo mode, which now seems to be the majority of my time spent with Driveclub.

I hope they'll release a feature complete version sometimes down the road. I'm kinda interested to play it, but don't feel like buying yet another game disc just so I can download the other half of the game later.
If Sony and/or the PS brand ever went tits-up, half of my PS4 games would be damn near worthless. I don't like that development. Kind of a miracle how polished the launch games were.

I agree, the whole thing is out of this world. I just downloaded the Destiny demo and now instead of playing out of the box, it's downloading an update?? For a DEMO!!!!??? What the hell people! AND! Now it's installing 17GB worth of data? For a demo!?

The internet ruined console gaming. Bad Internet! BAD!

Okay, that is odd. Do the tires have some slight reflection mapping on them?

It's not a reflection. The yellow line is an alpha-blended surface significantly popped off the roadway. It's fairly obvious that this is the case if you look at the line up-close in photomode while moving the camera.

Here, I made a stereoscopic image that makes it obvious that the strip is higher than the pavement.

SPEAKING OF WHICH.

Why is nobody making 3D screenshots of DriveClub? Seriously. Seriously.

The new weather images do look astonishingly good. Just goes to show the difference between wet weather with fancy shaders and boring, grey/sunny dryness. The next landmark for a racer is to make the dry racing look as impressive as the wet; ironic considering for a long while, the quality of the water was a benchmark.

Can one disable the rain on the follow-cam? As a computer game, that'd be very annoying for folk wanting to play from that perspective. Although I guess it equalises the follow cam view to the inside with windshield+rain.

It's a brilliant achievement. They must have factored in the weather to begin with, as there would have been enough of a headroom for the initial release to run at a fixed 30fps, then release the update which must take up some serious resources and still the game is running at the same framerate!
Why didn't they just delay it a couple of months and release a nice, complete game? It would have had a completely different response. Silly gits.

I believe DC was the only (major) exclusive from Sony during the month of October. If DC was released in November or December - Sony may have foreseen other established AAA titles during those months overshadowing DC release (profitability too).

Hopefully, things will work out better - after all the (re)reviews. From my understanding, DC has sold over 1.3 million copies (includes bundles) worldwide, and that was back in late November.

First impressions and all that... The game has been reviewed already so the only way people will be interested again will be for Driveclub 2, which at this point is a scary thought in terms of what they will come up with next... But I want Motorstorm with these crazy DC storms!

Even though I do not play racing games at all, I think this game looks absolutely amazing with the weather update. I really want to do nothing but see it setup with snow storm and doing nothing but donuts just to see the beauty.

The rain certainly can look stunning. The snow not so much perhaps. Only thing I'm not keen on is the external view 'rain on the camera' effect. It looks nice, but impedes visibility too much IMO (not as catastrophic as snow at night, however). I did a very similar (but *much* cheaper/quicker/hackier) effect in kz:m - was very careful to keep rain drops away from the centre of the view for player visibility. DC seems to revel in making it hard to see, what with this, the exposure system, etc.

I do wish they would change one aspect of the physics: if you ram into a wall it is generally fairly lenient as you bounce off, but if you scrape along a wall at a very shallow angle, you bleed speed ridiculously quickly. I've lost close to 100mph from very slightly misjudging a turn and 'brushing' the wall on an exit before, you can very easily loose 3 or 4 places on some of the higher speed point to point races. It encourages people to just ram the wall and bounce off.
