The thing is - we do not have perfect like for like settings even with the really fine grain options the day 1 Patch has (I did not even talk about the weather particles setting in the vid as I had no Idea what it does). Whatever settings the IGN Video used they were definitely not like for like with PS5 as most of the settings that made a closer approximation even possible only came about with the day 1 patch. That comp is extremely innaccurate.

Regardless - I find any direct performance comparison at best misleading given the current settings and the fact that DRS literally works differently on PC. Since people completely misused and abused any comps I do regarding PS5, I will not do comps to PS5 Performance on PC GPUs unless i have 98% or better settings lock like I had with Watch Dogs Legion.

Kind of hilarious how Spider-man has a nice 0-100 sharpening slider for photo mode, BUT for actual gameplay the sharpening is forced on with no way to disable it. As a result DLAA looks way oversharpened and TAA almost looks better overall even with it's much worse handling of fine detail since it can absorb all that sharpening.

Baffling UI/UX design...

Oversharpening annoys me a lot in games and movies I even detest it. I played the demo of Resident Evil VII and it was negative advertising for me. That's why I didn't buy the game. Non-functioning TAA plus oversharpening gives me a headache. On TVs I always set it to neutral sharpness which is usually 0 on non Sony TV products.

Judging from the DF video the oversharpening In Spiderman is so enormous that everything has white outlines. Thats sickening.

Could you also look at doing tests on realistic PC hardware?

While it's nice seeing how games look with everything cranked on thousands of pounds worth of hardware it doesn't exactly show the average Joe what a game would look like on their system.

My quick review...

I'm really enjoying the PC edition of Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered. Using maxed out settings without the use of DLSS support at native 4K really makes the game feel new. The biggest thing that stands out to me is "image clarity." The image quality of textures are super vivid and detail, much more vivid than playing it on my PS5. While the game is gorgeous on PC, it isn't perfect. Dualsense controller support feels bolted on, or halfass. The tactical/haptic feedback feels super weak when compared to the PS5, especially when you're web swinging or slinging. There were a few occasions (two to be exact) when the game would suddenly freeze for about 30-50 secs to autosave during web traversal when gliding between certain districts. And certain missions or busy work transition scenes which felt instantaneous on PS5 (i.e., a fadeout scene between completion of a scene to Spidey being perched on top of pole or building) wasn't as fast on PC on multiple occasions (mind you, I'm using an NVMe raid configuration). But all-in-all, I definitely prefer the PC edition with all the bells and whistles cranked up and running at high framerates. Hopefully, with one or two more patches from Nixxes, the PC edition should be perfect.

Its weird to say the least that IGN delves into such territory.

Anyway its a port, its impressive how well it allready runs. In special the loading times, without direct storage/gpu decompression.

Quite surprising this game is so hw demanding to be honest, in the end its just ps4 game + rt which on nvidia cards is much better performing than on amd tough on other hand insomniac are software wizards so they can squeeze all from hw they targeting.

Why are console games still skimping on anisotropic texture filtering? It has been essentially free for a decade and makes a huge difference to texture quality.
I wish I wrote this down, but I recall reading from a diary it is not free on console, for some reason it’s not clear to me, but that trip to memory is expensive for consoles but is generally free on PC.

If I remember correctly, it's bandwidth related. That consoles essentially have to share the more unified system bandwidth that a CPU/GPU combination (APU) offers, including memory access. In essence, discrete PC GPUs and CPUs aren't battling for the same bandwidth resources. Discrete GPUs have their own memory lanes/pools (i.e., VRAM), while the CPU typically enjoys the lanes/pools provide between it and the system ram.

Is it that demanding on the GPU though? Alex had it running at 60fps on a 1060 if I recall the video correctly.

Any game can be super heavy if you ramp up the resolution and settings well above the PS5 levels.

I've not seen any evidence thus far though that an equivalent PC GPU can't match or exceed the PS5's performance.

As Dictator said is hard to compare as there are no 1 to 1 settings tough 2060super has to be on very beefy cpu and has some lower settings than ps5 (dof especialy was taxing) to keep 60fps
