Sony's vintage 2003 GDM-FW900 CRT monitor is a 24-inch widescreen display renowned for delivering all of the advantages of CRT tech - stunning image quality and full motion resolution - combined with support for input resolution up to 2560x1600. Modern PC games still look amazing on it, but what about PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X? Is image quality really better than any modern screen, or do the latest black frame insertion techniques deliver equivalent motion resolution to this incredible screen? John Linneman explains all.

Even worse is that i have had one, bought it 2001 for 23.000kr (2.500usd in todays money? :p), left it in a house i moved from around ten years later. No idea what happened to it, but i want it again ;)
Its impossible to find one used now. Anyway the fact even the most advanced oleds trail behind this thing is intresting. Would i replace the oled for this thing? No, but to complement for the gaming pc, yes :p

I still have small old crt sanyo tv and games on playstation classic connected to this tv looks same as I remember they looked, same games with ps classic connected to any lcd looks like laughable sh*$ ;)

Yea its basically a need to have a CRT around for 6th generation or older consoles, it doesnt have to be a FW900 either :p Ive got some old 32'' sony crt trinitron's around, beasts for their time, still great today (for the intended use).

For anyone wanting that CRT experience, atleast on console, dont chase this FW900, they are very rare and thus very expensive. Something like the kv32 series (sony trinitron) of crt tv will do wonders and are probably much easier and less expensive to find. Basically everyone had one in the early 2000's.
I think Panasonic had something equal to sony's trinitron line, dont remember what they where called.

A full tech review of Namco Bandai Studio's latest - a stylish action JRPG with beautiful art direction and music. Next-gen machines are in the spotlight: how do Xbox Series X and PS5 compare in their bid for a full 4K60? And does Series S hold up with its own 1440p target of 60FPS? Tom digs in to find out.

Quick Notes:
* XBSX and PS5 have matching quality settings, including LoD issues.
* XBSX and PS5 as it stands, have matching DRS boundaries on reaching 4K.
* PS5 has a slight advantage with framerates and loading.
* XBSX can iron out the framerate differences with VRR.

looks really fun this one. Was thinking it came to gamepass but it's not =( Code Vein is on gamepass.
Bit disappointing on the commentary around the skill string build up being very slow. Love the style though, makes me feel like I'm playing MvC or something lol.

Series S continuing to impress me lol. Good wash on the top consoles, but VRR as a requirement to iron out frame rate issues is far from ideal.

I was kind of surprised DF covered this game.
How many of these framerate drops seem to be alpha blending related?

Also I have a side question. Does anyone here have it on the Series consoles? If you do I have another question to ask.

hmmm I have a sony hd widescreen crt in my parents basement my sister and her husband owned. It weighs a ton and just sits there and no one uses it. Perhaps I should sell it lol

I don’t think I ever will be convinced that RT is worth the performance price.

Well the relative performance hit will change over time. We’re already seeing good examples of running RT work in parallel with other work on the GPU.

It’s also much easier to poo poo RT today because we’re still happy with the current ”good enough” lighting in games. In the future today’s good enough will look like shit in hindsight.

But is that the only metric to evaluate it? If it lowers cost/development time, does that help?

OFC not, i just wish it stayed with tech demos and benchmarks. At least on consoles this budget could be spent elsewhere and produced much better result. But thats only mine opinion all RT games i tried were massive letdowns so far.

so you were not impressed with rachet and clank 60fps RT mode?
