@Dictator dat fire place! John is also looking good, healthier, good skin tone, looks like he may have lost some weight.

Good episode; agree on all points. Glad they took the effort to look for ray tracing spots here and there.

Even PNGs are outdated, with WebP appearing 15 years later. WebP is itself some 9 years old now. PNG is ~25 year old tech. May as well be using Zip drives and laser discs. :yep2:

Something that everyone should at least consider doing.

It's the hype doing it.

Edit: DF mentions that the 5700XT is about double the power of the One X, so Phil should have said about 3 times faster if it's 12TF or more, to better reflect the massive improvement in power.

Then it's obvious what it is.

You don't want your reveal your whole hand here until both companies are set in course. By revealing what they did Sony cannot react or change course and neither can MS. Basically they are stuck playing through. If they are still both at a point where they can make changes (because of verified information) that's not a good position to be in.

Knowing if you are under over the competition changes things. But it also sets you in stone when you don't need to be.
MS wants to be flexible here; we're still 1 year out.

The choice of words deliberately leaves them wriggle room. If it's only 10 TF then they are correct, if it's 12 TF, they are still correct. If it's anything in between, it's still in the ballpark. If it's over, it's still basically 2x.

Hell, 1.75x could still be just casually noted as 2x. 2.25x could just as well be said to be 2x. Phil up to this point hasn't spoken in terms of decimal points because that would denote specificity when he's still talking in general terms.

You can't claim someone is wrong after the fact if they never spoke specifically about something, as long as it's still within reason.

People are trying to read way too much into trying to pin specific numbers on what was said.

Regards,
SB

A 9.75 TFLOPS 5700xt is 2x power of X1x GPU.

At 12TF it will become 2.46x of x1x GPU.
How would DF say 3x?

Not DF, Microsoft. If they want to PR about power then they could have stated the factual amount of times stronger in power (TF), if that's what he ment. But like DF noted, we will have to wait and see what all that ment.
Double the power of One X equates to a 9 to 10TF Navi1.0 product, at 12TF navi2.0, were looking at about 3 times that power.

Why give the number at this point? Does it really matter? The numbers may not be finalized. They're just trying to give people an impression of what it will be like, and saying it's 2x an X or 4x a One S a concept the average consumer can wrap their head around.
