Devil May Cry 4 Going Multi-platform! (Xbox 360/PS3/PC) *Confirmed

actually, i did not really see this coming. i would have thought MGS4 or FF would go multiplat before DMC4. DMC has NEVER seen any other platform, other than DMC3 on PC, but i don't think it sold that well.

i guess Sony really needs to expand its user base to lock down more IP's.
You can't tell me that the thought didn't cross your mind. Unlike the 2 other companies, Capcom delivered 2 high quaility brand new IP's to the Xbox brand something they would not have done last gen and I think PS3 gamers would consider worthy of their system. Out of all the rumors this one actually had more credibility behind. MGS4 eh maybe kinda, a brand new FF on the Xbox brand most people would laugh at and if that ever turned out to be true... now that would be MEGATON but this ,DMC4, shouldn't be too surprising.

Indeed it does suck that PS3 is losing all these exclusives.
I think it's indirectly related to SCE investing heavily in its first/second-party software developers with engines optimized for PS3. Rather than paying whole big budgets for next-gen 3rd-party games, IMO they chose to duplicate the basis of Nintendo's monetary success.

Guys, ok - this forum is not a gathering place to discuss GAF, so if you're going to post, make it about 'something' rather than nothing. ;)

Anyway this is definitely significant news, not because frankly I don't expect MS to slowly but surely pick up more and more of the formerly exclusive Sony 3rd party titles, but because this marks the first of the "big" ones to go down.

I agree with One that Sony is shifting resources towards 1st/2nd party development, and towards tools in general (which indirectly promote PS3 development); I think it's a smart strategy for them, but a lot of the titles that have been associated with Playstation for some time are going to lose that association. It'll be interesting to see how it all ends up playing out, but hey in the meantime I say congratulations to 360 owners, because this should be a great game. :)

And I definitely expected this to happen before FFXIII or MGS4. IMO, MGS4 would be the last of those three to switch.

Let's hope not. Sony's first parties do not, let's face it, have the cachet that Nintendo's (and now Microsoft's) do.

Zelda and Halo are household names; not so much Jak and Kratos. Third parties built Sony. The current environment seems to be that if you're a third party, the option to be console-exclusive is itself a 360 exclusive (see: the other Framework-based games), and that's a damned place to be in for Sony.

Am I the only one who is glad over this news becouse I will be able to play the game on my PC?

I played DMC3 on my PC too. Unfortunately there was no wide screen mode. But at least you could play at 1600x1200 with AA and AF.

Resident Evil 4 I'm playing now on my PC too. That does have a wide screen mode. I can play it at 1920x1200 with AA&AF and it's smoother than the console versions which is cool.

You obviously don't know how many million hits SCE own. Now the time to check vgcharts.org :p Also MT Framework is up and running for PS3 too after DMC4, it's a multiplatform engine but I suspect it doesn't use SPURS.

I'm guessing it had more to do with the 1 year head start and the sales to date.

they'd be foolish not to include it on a platform that was 5 times as widely distributed (ATM) with 2, million seller games in pocket and an attach rate of 5+.

Expect more last gen exclusives to go multi. This does not surprise me in the least.

Anyone who thinks rationally saw this coming. Capcom has been saying for months that their next-gen engine was designed for multiplatform development in mind. I think the sequels to LP and Dead Rising will appear on the ps3 as well. With the orignals included on the BR disc. (just a hunch).

Ah no it is related to the 599 dollars and the 360 user base buying games at historic rate. Sony can invest all they want but if they lose all their 3rd party exclusives they will be in big trouble.

BTW, judging by Lost Planet and Dead Rising, Capcom is my favorite to WOW the pants off of you PS3 owners with either of those titles (if they cross over) or others from that engine and of course DMC4... their stuff looks and runs beautifully this gen.

Other than GTA4? This biggest of them all?

Really? I thought VF5 was the first big one. The rest were not THAT big (Armored Core 4, Eternal Sonata) or were too expected (UT3, Assassin's Creed, Mercenaries 2). But given how favorable Sega was to the Xbox, I thought VF4 would see the green console for sure. Despite rampant rumors for years, it never happened. Given the arcade background of VF5, I thought there was no way the 360 would ever see it.

Hmm. I expect MGS4 proper to go multiplatform first or MGS4 to get the Sigma treatment for the 360 with a Kojima protege helming the effort. I'm sure Kojima is fighting as well as he can, but I think Konami will demand some form of MGS on the 360. S-E can afford to remain on the PS3 more than Konami. Look how totally overwhelming the DS had to be before they moved DQ to it. If there's any company that seems to resist change, it's S-E. They *create* sales and don't need to change.

I think Konami is much further down the path of Capcom than S-E is. I would be very surprised if S-E is not the last big Japanese hold out (unless we're considering Level 5 big :p).

That announcement was made before the PS3 even launched though; I agree it was big/huge, but since GTA's been a time exclusive at best recently, and the news is old... I don't know. I mean, these are *real* exclusives we're talking about here, not just a six month advance (a la GTA).

Hmmm... well, I'm not sure I would say that VF5 was big, but I agree it's bigger than those others. It went into time-exclusive mode though, which is sort-of a halfway point. DMC4 being released simultaneously is on a different level even.

Well, we'll see. Hopefully (for Sony), neither titles moves over to the 360 - but I'll still hold the reverse position of FFXIII before MGS4. :)
