Devil May Cry 4 Going Multi-platform! (Xbox 360/PS3/PC) *Confirmed

This is an absolute disaster. Why in hell did i even buy the damn thing!? What i'm i investing for? I never in my life liked muti-platform games because they were incomplete pieces of shit that developers/publishers could cash-in on. Sigh...why do you guys encourage this? So, what now? MGS4? Because once that's done there will be no reason for Ps3 to exist. So much potenical wasted...:devilish:
seems like Microsoft is able to lock down some exclusives because its user base is ~10m. until Sony can expand their user base, they will continue to lose exclusives with the high costs to make games these days.

my guess is MGS4 and FF may remain exclusives. by the time they're released (2008) the PS3's user base should be big enough, and i think Sony will realize how important they are, as they are probably 2 of the most anticipated titles for the PS3.

they do have plenty of first/second party exclusives that will most likely stay, such as GT5, R&C, Jak, Uncharted, Lair, resistance, motorstorm, little big planet, killzone. god of war and socom will also probably make it to the ps3.

How is it going to grow big enough if it keeps losing exclusives? When Joe Consumer walks into a store this Christmas and wants to get a new game system that he's heard so much about, he'll have three options*:

$200 Wii
$200-300 xb360
$400-500 ps3

If the libraries continue to grow at their current and expected rate, the xb360 will have the largest (and cheapest via platinum hits) library followed by Wii followed by ps3. If this Joe is only interested in a game box, the choice will boil down to four things:
1) What game types interest him (her)
2) Is gaming foreign to him (her)
3) Is online gaming important to him (her)
4) Budget

Frankly with the 3rd party exclusives lost, the only ones left buying ps3 are Sony fans, and BR backers. Outside of these two, there are few that would pay a $100-300 premium for Sony first party games.

I do not see how* this continued situation will present a favorable market to release these games (mgs4, FF) in 2008-2009. Will the ps3 userbase grow? Sure I think so, but not enough to neglect the potential profit from porting these titles to xb360/Wii.

Question: How does the $480 Xbox 360 Black version fit in this scenario?

they have quite a few IP's to be released this year, and lets not forget that they've sold hundreds of millions of PS2's. not saying that every ps2 owner that does not own a ps3 by christmas will buy a ps3, but there are a lot of Sony fans out there.

how big do you think its user base needs to be to secure exclusives? imo, all they need is ~7m which should be quite easy to reach by 2008. they are already close to 2m and the european launch is right around the corner.

Not sure exactly what the Zephyr is at this point so until that's known I can only speculate that they have a true "premium" offering they would like available at the top end of the market. For those that are interested, it's there. If not, well core's there too. ;)

IMO, Sony should abandon the PS3 completely and start investing on the PS4 before they go bankrupt. All the latest news such as AC6, Tekken 6 and DMC4 going to XBox 360 are crashing blows and may as well be knock out punches. I'm betting Halo 3 will be the "game over" for Sony.

IMO, they should not. and when is Tekken 6 going to the 360? AC6? meh. DMC4 and VF5 were the biggest losses. don't forget the PS3 did get Saints Row, GRAW2 and Splinter Cell DA. there are also rumors of LP and DR coming as well.

they would probably lose more money in scrapping the PS3 and will also have A LOT of disappointed fans.

you are jumping to conclusions WAY too early...

1) Exclusive IP's this year, I'm not too familiar, but it seems to me there is only a handful: Lair, HS, LBP ... I can't think of any more that are 100% coming this year.

2) They sold ~100million ps2's. How many are diehard fans and how many are just casuals who like to play some madden/gta? I think the diehard question has been answered by the recent sales trends. The rest were gamers who saw good value with a great library.

3) Exclusive market for ps3 is interesting because not only has the market been limted for 3rd party's to sell to, the buyers have been hesitant as well. The current attach rate for ps3 isn't so hot. (~ half what xb360's is currently)

Sony can't even afford to drop that outrageous price. They already loss over 2 billion in 4 months. What more can you ask?

Tekken 6 hasn't been announce yet. But with all the rumors of DMC4 and other previous Sony exclusives going to the 360 and the fact that they happen, gives me a good indication that Tekken will make it's way to 360.

It's doesn't matter what Sony has right now. All the bigger games are coming out for 360 and you can't deny that 3rd parties are fully backing MS more then Sony.

yes and some of them have or will buy a 360 or a Wii. they went to the PS2 because it was the system to own last gen, with lots of exclusives and a huge library and it was cheap.

this gen, things are different. expect a different result from those 100 million. It will be much more fragmented and cross plat releases and services and online and software and PRICE will play (and already are playing) a big role. Not to metion the impact of Wii.

My example was bad? What example? I didn't give one.

If someone was really into the DMC style game, yeah, the PS3 makes more sense. But then, how many people are like that? Surely that portion of the market is quite tiny.

By "class" I meant something other than genre. DMC was previously one of the biggest Japanese franchises that just never appeared on the Xbox.

Maybe I read you wrong :)

There's no question that PS3 owners do not suffer from the announcement.
But there's also no question that potential PS3 owners do suffer.

It's not just DMC, either. If DMC, what else? That class of game was one of the two biggest reasons to get a PS3

About one of the two biggest reasons to get a PS3, call me dumb but I'd claim it to be MGS and FF where DMC just was a minor blip on the radar.

"DMC was previously one of the biggest Japanese franchises that just never appeared on the Xbox"

Here is why I used Ace Combat as an example, it's not like the PS3 lost DMC4 as people still can buy it and unlike the Ace Combat the PS3 got other must have exclusives for fans of that genre where as fans of AC no longer have a reason to get a PS3.

1. LBP isn't coming this year. this year, they have HS, Lair, R&C, Uncharted, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Hot Shots Golf 5, Warhawk, Singstar, Eight Days, LA Noire, and possibly even Killzone 2. this is just going by IGN's release dates which will most likely change though.

2. they've sold well over 100m ps2's.
again, i said obviously not all of them will buy ps3's. lets say even 1/8 of them do...thats more than 360 owners to this date. of course the ~100m ps2s sold is over 7-8 years, but come christmas time, i'm sure there will be a lot of ps fans that will get their ps3, and supply will NOT be an issue. they already missed last years holiday season with supply issues. not until AFTER christmas did they start making ps3's in a steady rate.

3. yes the ps3's 3rd party support is behind atm, but like i said, ~10m vs ~2m, who do you think has the advantage to secure 3rd party exclusives?

Definitely. I haven't heard about a PS3 game having procedural facial animation system like Mass Effect, but it doesn't mean it's impossible to do on PS3 hardware.

Insomniac demoed that at GDC '07, you can see it at IGN.

But from what I have read developers prefer to have more control over the facial expressions.

Small correction, LittleBigPlanet is also coming out this year.

Tekken is not coming out until 2008. it may go multiplat, but thats a long ways away and sony can catch up in sales. all the bigger games are coming out on 360, but they are also coming out on ps3? whats your point? that exclusives will only sell consoles? theres more to it...

read my post in reply to TheChef0.

in short, i didn't say every ps2 owner will buy a ps3.

If the 360 and PS3 costed the same I would agree DMC would not be such a big deal. But with the PS3 200 dollars more the 499 unit has disappeared sony needs every single exclusive they can get to get people to shell out the 200 extra dollars. Every exclusive that moves to the 360 is another blow and they are adding up. Think about it the PS2 had pretty much every single 3rd party exclusive. In a matter of 18 months sony has lost them all but 2 MGS and FF. For the average person 2 games and a few first pary games are not going to be enough to justify 200 extra dollars. Another thing that makes DMC so huge is like GTA the 360 will get it the same day the PS3 does. Sure the PS3 is getting a few games from the 360 like GRAW2 the problem is by the time they show up on the PS3 the games will be old news.

LittleBigPlanet is a niche game. I don't consider it mainstream since it's a downloadable only title. Who's buying a PS3 just for LBP? For all we know, it may look good but play like crap.
