The stuff in there (that seems more polished than other elements) certainly looks good. I don't think I'd put it on the same level as Crysis, though. But it does look good, albeit quite unfinished as well (surprise?). I think I might have had higher (unfounded?) expectations.
Call of Duty 2 was an excellent game. Certainly went a long way in justifying the money I put down on a 360. CoD3 was a real disappointment. Many people commented on how it was "more of the same" and that's why it wasn't as great as CoD2 was at the time. And I think those people miss it. CoD3 wasn't more of the same at all--(speaking of SP, being what I prefer here) it wasn't even close to the quality of CoD 2. The level of polish wasn't there, the mission structure wasn't as good or entertaining, IMO. It was chock full of the gimmicks that seemed to have been made for the Wii--the bombs you had to set (god, horribly tedious after half a dozen of them), and the close quarters combat minigame. Oh, and then it chose to use even more of the pieces that made CoD2 frustrating at points. Those multiple sub-objective missions where you have to go through the same laborious task again and again to get to the part where you failed last time. Setting the charges near the factory (and getting shot in the back because enemies just keep respawning) and such. It's like they never played some of those missions thoroughly on Veteran.
Strong, high expectations for solid gameplay from IW, and I don't doubt they'll meet it. I just hope that the setting doesn't disinterest me. I'm somewhat sick of WWII, thought not as much as other people (since I don't play them that much). But what I'm NOT sick of is the scale. I don't find the... context, as interesting, when you're fighting a small band of terrorists or whatever. So I hope the scale is good, whoever the enemy ultimately is. Probably didn't describe what I mean very well, but eh...
