Buying new TV - Go LED or wait for 3d?

Billy, does the deal include free 3D glasses and emitter ?

The emitter should be built into the TV, and if the VX series is like the VT series we have in the states then it will come with 1 pair of glasses.

Do PS3 just work with these HDMI 1.4 3D TVs ? Do we get full resolution for 3D Bluray from PS3 or half ?

You should get full resolution. The PS3 cannot currently output HD audio formats during 3D playback. Dunno if it will get this functionality later on or not.

Does PS3 have the bandwidth for it ? Is it worth it to get a another 3D Bluray player ? for these 3D TVs ?

Image quality from PS3 will be identical to a 3D Blu-ray player. The only drawback that I can see is, the PS3 won't output HD audio formats during 3D playback (well also I've read some title screens of 3D blu-rays are not displayed in 3D on PS3 but seriously who cares). And like I said, it's hard to tell if it will get this functionality at a later date or not.

Yes, they have just shipped my new TV today - I hate the wait until the stuff I have already bought arrives - typically, when I made the decision (which can take forever) I want my product immediately!!

So only few days until I get my new panny plasma

Be sure to post back here with impressions! I'd really like to know what you think, especially in the input lag department.

Yep, I will try my best. Up to now I played on a Philips LCD and on a SONY Beamer. I did never think about input lag...but according to several reviews, input lag is rather optimum on this device...

Billy, apparently, Consumer Reports agree with your choice: :p

For its annual December electronics issue, Consumer Reports evaluated 14 3D TV models, in its first-ever ranking of 3D performance. Using exclusive 3D test patterns developed in-house, as well as 3D Blu-ray movies and recorded 3D sports broadcasts, the magazine's engineers found that plasma TVs are better at displaying 3D images than LCD sets, primarily because they exhibit less ghosting (technically termed "crosstalk"), or double images that appear even when wearing 3D glasses.

What would be better for immersion:

- A larger screen 60"+
- or a 3DTV

That is my dilema.

How big would the 3DTV be? How close would you be to it? My expectancy would be that for games that support 3D well, as well as movies, a 3DTV would almost always be more immersive (my personal experience). On the other hand, if 96% of your time is spent consuming content that is 2D, then 3D of course won't matter much. I think you'll just have to find a way to try the 3D for games. Or, like me, wait another 6 months.

I had specific requirements that led me to my most recent LCD TV purchase: LG 47LE8500 (deep sales on Amazon)

* 40-50" size (small lounge in small flat)
* Energy/Heat efficiency (no aircon in Summers)
* Fast response times (ability to disable image processing, etc)

Due primarily to the 2nd requirement, it completely ruled out all 3D displays. The LED backlighting (full array) on this set runs nice and cool. The only warm part is the area near the power supply.
