archie4oz...

GBA and NGC seems to be the common naming convention.

Three letters acronyms are annoying anyway.

Yep.

But they're still referred to by developers as AGB and GCN.

I believe archie4oz is a developer, or at least, "in the biz".

My housemate works for Torus, and is always talking about their latest "AGB game".

It's all just semantics anyway :)

Well, for one thing, Nintendo Power refers to Game Boy Advance as GBA, but the GameCube as GCN.

AGB *is* a pure developer abbreviation, but GCN is the official 'standard' abbreviation for the 'cube.

It's also in the model designation as well... The Game Boy Pocke, Color and Advance are PGB, CGB, AGB respectively...

GCN is incredibly irritating. Who says "Game Cube Nintendo"?
I'm afraid Nintendo does.

To quote the GCN SDK somewhere at begining...
"With so many high-speed processors in the NINTENDO GAMECUBE (GCN),"
And from there on, the abbreviation is used.

I guess they just like to irritate people :p

Actually GCN flows more smoothly than NGC if you just pronounce the letters ;)

People watch CNN not the Cable News Network ;)

Right, but when I read NGC it spells out in my head "Nintendo GameCube", and GCN "Game Cube Nintendo". While GCN may sound more fluid abreviated, its irritating to read. You dont see PS2S do you?
Hell, GC works better than them all, 2 letters. Gee-See.

GC works but it doesn't have any brand affiliation which is a no no for ANY Nintendo product ;)

I have a standards testing methodology manual for games summitted to Nintendo. I also have one for PS2 and Xbox.

BTW you don't see PS2S because SONY has their own standards for naming convention ;) According to their standards SONY PS2 is acceptable. Nintendo OTOH doesn't allow Nintendo GC or NGC or GC. They do allow GCN and NINTENDO GAMECUBE.
