Is this a recent thing? Or are you actually talking about DDR3 instead of GDDR3?Impossible. Noone makes smaller than 1gbit ddr3 chips, hence 4 16bit wide 1gbit chips is the lowest possible configuration - 512MB. If that 5500 series is Redwood with 128bit bus, the lowest possible configuration with ddr3 is actually 1GB.
There are plenty of 128-bit, 512MB GDDR3 cards on the market, as well as 256-bit, 1GB GDDR3 cards. 4670, 4850, GT240, GT220, GTX285, etc.
