Well in 2015 Sony didn't release a single first party game IIRC. When was the last year that happened? I know development time has increased and 2016 looks really strong in terms of first party support but it's definitely toned down in comparison with the previous gen at least so far.

In retrospect you will probably be able to look back at Until Dawn and call it first party because if Sony aren't acquiring that studio and bringing it into SCE Worldwide Studios I'll buy a hat then eat it. The only platform Supermassive Games have released on apart from PlayStation is Windows and not for a few years.

I can see that, UD was a surprising success and one of the best games this year imo. I really enjoyed it, more than i did with Heavy Rain or B:TS at least.

They did release first party games! They happened to be PS3 remasters but they were first party! ;)

Hmm, only SMM did the remaster internally and was first party, both QD and Bluepoint are not first party, although you could argue that ND helped Bluepoint a bit. I am kinda sad we didn't get a Killzone 2/3 remaster for Ps4 while they were at it...

It seems PS4 standalone 500 GB model will be 299 euros in France tomorrow until Christmas. Not sure at 100% +and not sure it will be the same things in other country in Europe.

Bloodborne was released in March of 2015. And it was funded/published by Sony.

Sony might actually own Bloodborne as well.

Owning an IP doesn't make it first party though, i think that's what second party exclusive means (third party dev + owned IP so it's technically impossible to release in other platforms if Sony doesn't want it to).

Does it really matter though? I mean you're getting something new, exclusive, and that takes advantage of the PS4 hardware. Which most internal/first party teams provide. And honestly speaking, I'm glad Sony isn't in the business of providing annual releases of most their key triple-A titles.

So bi-annual releases are enough?

That depends on the individual person. Personally, games like Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, God of War, Uncharted, etc... feel more polished (solid IQ, performance, etc...), and more consistent than games (insert UBI/EA game) that are put out every year. And honestly, I get fatigued (sick) with rapid series releases. Dilutes something that was great in the beginning....

Oh i am not saying they have to release their games every year. I am just saying they dropped the ball with first party support in 2015, something clearly didn't go according to plan. Uncharted 4 for example (original release date was 2015). I am okay with them not rushing it though, i want it to be the best it can when it comes out.

Enough for what?

I'd like to see more first party titles and less remakes with greater emphasis on new IPs because that's what I like about Sony's platforms - the diverse gameplay experiences.

That said while for me the answer is no, I find it both ironic and somewhat cynical that many saying the releases aren't enough at other times say Sony shouldn't fund first party because the games don't sell, aren't any good or focus more on art than on game play. Then when Sony does more with third parties the argument becomes they don't have any games.

To put it another way to date the lack of more robust first party release schedule hasn't harmed Sony yet. But it remains to be seen if gamers can be won back by MS who lately is making so good steps on this issue (E3 2015) and frankly in the absence of more risk taking we might just see gamer fatigue to some degree which interferes with the growth of the core market if developers keep rereleasing last generations games with prettier graphics or continue to follow a very formulaic approach to game design.

Thankfully we have independent developers ATM, without them both the analysis and experience of this generation would be very muted to date. But if you were a 360 core gamer there isn't too much to criticize with PS4's library IMO...

What was the surprise this gen? From the time the consoles were revealed (8GB GDDR5 was a surprise!), it's been playing out exactly as a lot of us expected. I guess the surprise is Nintendo making a weird duffer machine.
Sony getting its head out of its ass after last generation ? They did a complete 180 from last generation they weren't late , they didn't tell you to get a second job , they had the more powerful cheaper consoles.

That's just the internet and that you'll always find folk with different opinions. But unless you actually make note of the same people being contradictory, generally it's different people and you're just attributing the contrariness to a gestalt "them". It's unreasonable to think that you can express a view and have everyone in agreement without someone presenting the counterpoint.
