Looking at old NPD's...it's clear the race is tightening in the USA. I have Sony leading for 2015 year to date by just 381k...so if MS replicates last year's Nov/Dec where they won by 600k+ (a lot of if's here), they'll win calendar 2015. Ignoring October, which most people think will be close at worst.

The overall lifetime US gap is supposedly 862k, MS would have to really blow it out of the water to completely overcome that this year.

The other problem is once out of the holidays, I'd expect PS4's price drop might have a bigger effect in the slow early months of 2016.

Abdiel ALWAYS posts something positive for Sony, though. Without usually actually saying anything specific. Did he say that for the month for the entire chain PS4 led? That would be interesting. But more likely he was just talking about "his district" or whatever, with no way to prove anything. I guess to say I dont really trust him since again, he's obviously pretty biased.
I don't remember his exact words, but he said the PS4 is leading. Not by a lot, but the lead varies from store to store. And he feels that the trend is the same for the rest of the country.

I see no reason for him to lie. PS4 wins 85-90% of the time. PS4 is either leading or it's not.

Microsoft only won November and December last year, so encroaching into October would be a plus (assuming they continue to hold the latter two). And while there's Halo 5, the PS4's price cut in the same month is a bigger deal, or should be.
Why is that? A $100 price cut is a big deal. A $50 price cut from 399 to 349 has never made a huge impact. If it was 349 to 299 that might be a different story.

A mainline Halo game with bundle has always been huge for MS, though. Back in 2007, the X360 went from 277k in August to 528k in September. And it's not like August was a nothing month either... that was Madden month.

Anyways, MS obviously knows the US market better than Sony, and they're working pretty aggressively pre-black friday with tons of deals. It appears we may not see a nominal XBO price drop, but they are packing in loads of software, gift cards, and controllers. Then, I expect the price to effectively be 299 this Black Friday, which for all the deals we didn't see last BF. Then again, I'd expect at least one retailer to go to 299 for PS4 on BF as well.
I wouldn't say MS knows the US market better than Sony. More like the US market is far more important to MS than it is to Sony and thus are far more aggressive in pricing, specifically during the holidays.

I bet this holiday season will be closer than last year though. I say Sony holds their 2015 sales lead. Not that it really matters to anyone other than MS though.

If Xbox PR is doing this in 2nd year of loosing, what will they do in 5th year? :)

Hardware refresh - Releasing Xbox One Slim with Kinect 3 or maybe Xbox Two with Hololens. Then clearing remaining stock of original Xbox One.

I've reading neogaf and apparently MS PR is leading to most people to think MS already knows they lost October. It's going to be a funny month if XB1 comes on top.

BTW just talked to a guy that works in retail here in Spain, PS4 continues to slaughter XB1 here (8 to 1 he told me) and the pricecut did have some effect but not huge, however they do expect a spike in sales in November due to COD and BF bundles, although preorders are not crazy high he told me a lot of people have come to the store asking for availability and price, specially asking about battlefront (SW movie hype helping too?) , so yeah this month is going to be pretty good for PS4.

Yeah I think the Battlefront and CoD bundles negatively affected the PS4 in October a bit. Two very big releases with bundles tied to them. That paired with the Halo 5 boost, I think the XB1 edges out the PS4 in October. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 takes November this year though.

I think Sony might end up winning both October and November at this rate. Hardware bundles for both COD and Star Wars is a big deal, and most probably bigger than Halo 5 in the US. Although you can never count Halo out of moving platform sales.

Now the hard part...any proof/links/figures to back this up?
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...eed-syndicate-sales-clearly-impacted-by-unity

But Syndicate's second week sales beat those of Unity's, he continued. And, all things considered, Syndicate may still end up beating its predecessor.

"We seem to experience the same sales curve as [Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag]," Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot noted. "Versus Unity, Syndicate was down in the first week but nicely outperformed it in its second week as it benefitted from positive word of mouth."

Guillemot would not answer whether combined two-week sales of Syndicate were still below those of Unity over the same period, but again pointed to Black Flag as an example of where lower launch sales were evened out by a much higher cumulative sales in the long run.

Yep. Which is a new phenomenon for large games, which won't necessarily be front heavy any more but which can still sell well over time. This is just a clear example from the horse's mouth to support the view - ongoing growth can't be attributed to sales or PSN giveaways etc.

Personally I don't get the whole preordering thing. Everyone should wait for reviews and stop giving away money to some developers who have so little respect that they gain from launching a broken product, then having to fix it after banking in the cash.

If MS win 2015 I'm sure they will be beating some drums...but look what they've had to do to scrape a (very marginal) win - big price drops and their biggest franchise release in that year, but I think with the CoD & SW deals it'll be really close...Sony definitely pulled off some good deals there (along with the price drop) to counter.

2016 I imagine PS4 will win comfortably, you have the price drop which will help in the first couple months and then (of course) Uncharted 4.

Heh, I was going to post this! And yes I already did notice Syndicate was only down 39% in it's second week.

Still, "only" 39% shows what kind of trends we are dealing with here. That's still a very large drop.

Also note the Ubi guy "declined" to mention if Syndicate was ahead of Unity, which basically means it isn't, and as I understand it Unity was a pretty poor seller by AC standards itself. A lot of people said the XBO bundles obfuscated the fact Unity sold pretty poorly, and they expected that to show up with Syndicate, now having no way to hide.

But yes good link. Our lack of sales figures makes this hard to discuss much.

I went back and looked at the November 2014 rankings, indeed the unity XBO was #2 for the month. PS4 had SKU's at #11 and 31 among others.

Though, Black Friday alone will probably send a tidal wave through the standings. Just November not looking good for XBO so far.

Also, you can further drill down Amazon past sales by week. And even in the early weeks of November 2014 XBO was doing much better than the early Nov 2015 charts (so basically cant blame it all on Black Friday)...

Edit: Just realized though that other retailers have had better deals than Amazon in Nov so far. Amazon is simply offering Mad Max free with any Xbox, other retailers are offering a $50 GC or free game of choice.
