+59.5% year over year is a downward trend? Yeah I get what you mean though.

Anyways NPD published top selling titles of the first half of 2015. Not even a platform order, but it's something I guess.

http://fortune.com/2015/07/23/top-10-selling-video-games-2015-so-far/

1. Mortal Kombat X (Publisher: Warner Bros.)
2. Grand Theft Auto V (Publisher: Take-Two Interactive Software)
3. Battlefield Hardline (Publisher: Electronic Arts)
4. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (Publisher: Activision)
5. Minecraft (Publisher: Microsoft)
6. Batman: Arkham Knight (Publisher: Warner Bros.)
7. Dying Light (Publisher: Warner Bros.)
8. NBA 2K15 (Publisher: Take-Two Interactive Software)
9. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Publisher: CD Projekt Red)
10. Super Smash Bros. (Publisher: Nintendo)

I guess I'm a bit surprised at Dying Light being so high, and maybe comparatively Witcher 3 being lower a bit.

And a Nintendo game made the top 10, not bad for them.

Well... I guessed what you meant with your post about the XO being cheaper too. You are right to point that it is not worded properly as sales are up.
With the XB1 selling reasonably (at the cost of subsidizing though) and the PS4 performing exceptionally well, I wonder how fast the "pool" is going to get filled. Both hardware seems failure proof, no spinning disk, no overheating, crashed HDD aside... they should keep working for a while.

Ehh, they both seem to have their usual cheap quality control made in China problems, but I guess there's no one big thing to point at like RROD this time.

OT but I dont know whether it's my XBO, Destiny, or what, but I leave my XBO in standby, or whatever it's called where it's supposed to wake fast at the cost of some idle power usage, and I have Destiny on their digitally. Typically often when I shut it down (which it goes to standby when shut down cause that's how I've set it I guess) and start it up again after several hours, it doesn't wake properly, or something. The TV will either show "no input" even though it's on the correct HDMI as the Xbox, or it'll show the dash but extremely "scrambled". The fix is to unplug the whole console from the wall, plug it back in and start it up, then it's ok as normal.

I cant tell if this is Destiny/standby somehow corrupting after a few hours or the Xbox itself, or even maybe the TV, or some sort of HDMI handshake issue. At one point I planned to get the Xbox "repaired" under the 1 yr warranty, but since the box more or less works, and it is a nebulous problem, and I was so addicted to Destiny as well, I never did, and now 1 year is just past.

I also had the original controller that came with it, one of the rumble motors eventually came partly loose and was extremely loud. Now the replacement has a decently loud "creak" in the right trigger, although it's still functional.

What "cheap quality control made in China problems" ? The failure rates for both are well within industry norms. In any case the assembler (Foxconn, Hon Hai etc) will put in the place the manufacturing and Q/A processes their client (Sony and Microsoft) mandates.

Yup. 1-3% is usual failure rate for tech products. Both PS4 and Xbone are very durable and assembled great [although I really don't like lack of effort put into design of Xbone].

I'm not a huge fan of the PS4 design. The shape is OK but that LED strip on the top does not work for me; I'd much have preferred a LED on the front. The USB ports are bloody invisible and I always forget which button does what (power on/off, eject). It must be an age thing! :yep2:

I am more talking about internal design. Xbone's is non existent.
I do not know why they waste so much metal on the box EM shield like PC and do not make one just for MB like PS4 and Wii U. Xbone looks like they just threw everything together.

Oh right, yes the internal design is incredibly good. But you'd expect that from Sony as they've had a fair few decades of experience

Maybe because its v.1. MS's design team might of stressed reliability and longevity over anything else especially since these consoles will be the oldest at the end of the gen while the v.1 form factor will be replace well before we get to the end of the gen.

Sony on the other hand is far more versed and producing a good reliable design while compact should take less effort and investment.

Plus, MS had to contend with the memory of the famous RROD. Hyundais from the 80s were more reliable than the early 360s.

@Rangers
That might be a Destiny problem. Mine does weird shit too when I resume from a long shutdown. Check other games. Mine only acts like that with Destiny.

Didn't realize consoles sales were limited to a free economic development zone within Shanghai. That's equivalent to limiting sales of the xb1 and ps4 in the US to just retail shops within New York City.

China just very recently opened sales to all of China.

Wonder if we will see a nice boost in sales for the region.

Well lets see. I don't think so because there are many massive hurdles. The restrictions on possible content for the Xbox One and PS4. Very limited games library. Few friends to play games with/against. None of the most popular existing Chinese games. Up against the very embedded very vibrant Chinese pc gaming industry/community & Mobile Market. ~$480USD (2999 RMB) entry level costs are to high for average chinese. Even the costs of games are going to be a problem. I've looked into it and Chinese are certainly not used to paying the equivalent of 60USD or more for games.

I've been in Shanghai for a few days and honestly, I haven't seen any consoles - new or old - in any shop here. And even if they did have them, everyone is probably way too busy on their smartphone to notice ;)

Plus the current state of the chinese economy is built on their housing bubble. Much like the Japanese housing bubble of the 80s. It will burst and with it hurt and bring down their economy as well. Chinese consumers will have less money spending habit will become more conservative.

Also much of chinese economy is based around manufacturing for western companies. With rising chinese wages, China vs Western geopolitics (eg South China Sea dispute), and more and more alternative countries now with a level of infrastructure to be able manufacture for western companies, well see a flight of a significant key component of their economy to cheaper countries like Bangladesh, Turkmenistan, India, Cambodia, Vietnam etc.

While Shanghai is 2500 sq miles in area, the free trade zone is supposedly ~50-100 sq miles. Since you are in Shanghai, see if you can find it if that's possible.

My PS4 Destiny resume problem is limited to the wireless headset. The game itself resumes just fine, but the headset seems to have a problem linking when using the 'Rest" feature. You end up having to reset the adapter fairly often for some reason. Just cycling the power on the headset and console doesn't seem to work. This only happens when it has been in rest mode and did not happen with other games (I often use the headset just for sound -> no noise pollution to the rest of the house and it produces better sound than the built in speakers from the tv or the projector.)

Thats physical retail outlets. Online retailers have already been shipping across china since each consoles respective launch date.

Wii U lifetime sales pass 10 million, Splatoon sells 1.62m.

Nintendo's Investors Relations Information

The good news is 3DS sales (1m for the quarter), Splatoon sales and amiibo sales. Splatoon has sold 1.62m units since its release at the end of May, helping the Wii U edge over the 10m sales milestone (10.01m specifically) after two-and-a-half years on sale. Considering Splatoon is Wii U exclusive, and it was on sale for two full months, that's a convincing result for the new IP. Then again, Mario Kart 8 is owned by 5.11 million people - more than half of the Wii U audience.
