Why look at only November? Back then anyone could look at the 2013 year to date sales ranks and see PS4 ahead of Xbox One.

And you're making the mistake of correlating the relative ranks to actual sales numbers again. PS4 dropping one slot from April to May doesn't mean it sold less, it just means something above it sold more. Since that month had a major game release like Watch_Dogs that sold like crazy it isn't strange to see it pop above the PS4 and there is no reason to conclude from that sales went down. For all we know they went up.

Amazon had a "PS4 launch edition" SKU which they removed from their site. They have also removed all of the "launch edition" bundles they sold in the first few months, all of which were in the top 100, but no longer show up in the archived monthly top 100. The Xbox One Day 1 Edition is still somehow being sold so it's still on the site.

My guesses for May are:
PS4 - 230-250k
XB1 - 95-105k

Just because the PS4 dropped in rank doesn't mean it dropped in sales. Watch Dogs and Mario Kart released in May. I wouldn't even be surprised if the Wii U beats the XB1 because of MK8.

Nice analysis, Rangers. I also agree that the Xbox One sales will be closer in June.

Huh? Because that's the methodology I'm using. For all 6 months, the same method. "Back Then" doesn't help me be consistent either.

I'm ceding that Amazon is "6 for 6". Depending how you define that, anyway (top SKU vs top SKU, I guess). November ranking is an aberration. And I cede that PS4 sold better on Amazon preorders, as far as I remember, which is basically the true rankings for November.

I already explained the issue with November.

Where did I do that? Well, I guess I did in trying to do "May prediction". But that was just for fun. I'm well aware the numbers dont correlate to rankings. Obviously #1 in Dec is much different than #1 in Jan.

To try to suss out some correlation, you'd have to try to use "like" months, take into account holidays, NPD 5 week months vs 4, the apparent tax return effect in February, maybe even big software releases, so forth and so on.

April to May might be fairly similar. Though Watch Dogs might have some effect in there somewhere, I dont even care. It was a 5 second approximation not even meant to be accurate just to see if there's any validity there. Your take would be Watch Dogs will boost the numbers, I guess. You might be right. I didn't even think about it that much.

Opps I made a mistake on my Amazon rankings. Destiny PS4 bundle is #18 in addition to regular PS4 #9. I totally missed that. Corrected now.

No excuse for PS4 to not win June now if that holds up :p

Slightly off-topic, White DS4 and White Playstation "Gold" wireless headset are up for pre-order on Amazon; Obviously meant for people who buy the White PS4 Destiny bundle.
I don't think they were announced at E3.
DS4
Headset

Also the Destiny PS4 bundle has moved up to #11.

I dont see how peorders for September release of the Destiny white bundle will help PS4 sales in June... NPD calculates only sales, not standing preorders.

Yeah that's right.

In the same way, counting Titanfall bundle ranking for X1 in February doesn't work.

In effect Amazon front loads pre-order sales versus NPD. Just throws another wrench into trying to divine the accuracy of Amazon.

Little info that was unveiled so far:
PS4 #1 nextgen console
3DS #2 overall sales
WiiU ~85% sales boost to ~89K

I'm very happy for Wolfenstein.

Wii U actually sold 60,000-62,000k.

Every multiplatform title sold better on PS4 vs XB1. Even Ghosts on PS3 outsold the XB1 version. Considering there's no MS PR, it must have been a bad month.

MLB The Show was released on PS3/Vita in April and didn't even crack the top 10, so most of these sales are most likely the PS4 version. I knew it would sell respectably well, but not 3rd place, above Wolfenstein. Was thinking more like 5-8.

Hardware: PS4 > 3DS > ???

Every third party game sold better on PS4 than on Xbone. Not a peep from MS yet? Xbone must have done pretty poor.
