actual speed of a Giga Network ?

We have a gigabit setup at home for moving raw HD video clips between eSATA setups and I think the slowest speed we saw was a 100 MB/s
 
For PCIe NICs, the limiter is usually the HDD yes. Even with a PCI NIC that should be the case, but I think PCI performance is, in reality, usually way under that 133 MB/s theoretical limit. Also, in older systems, the IDE controller is usually on PCI with every other device. Some mobos do put IDE on its own separate bus. (At least I think I saw that once...)
