[360, PS3] Crysis 2

That is possible, and seems somewhat likely. My explanation also works though.

But Cry-Sam has already said that the screenshots that were released were

PS - If that is too many large images, just let me know and I will remove them and link to the source.

They are entering Alpha stage.

Also, with their tech allowing them to demo the EXACT Xbox 360 build on the PC without ANY extra work, why wouldn't they demo the more stable version? Why wouldn't they demo the version with better debug tools? Why wouldn't they demo the version with a far easier set up(referring to the actual switching between levels and starting up levels, not setting up the hardware itself)?

There are hundreds of reasons to use the PC. Doesn't make what they showed any less indicative of what the Xbox 360 build of the game looks like considering they are using the EXACT spec, just compiled to run on PC.

They are entering alpha now? And they plan to launch this autumn?

I find that hard to believe, for example the Halo Reach beta was internally their delta and they're launching autumn 2010 as well AND they're only developing for 360. Bunige is currently nearing Zero Bug Release, how can Crysis 2 be only alpha?

And how many other developers at E3 showed PC's running console spec builds to demonstrate the console versions?

Different development cycles. Crysis was still showing Pre-Alpha footage up to May 2007. It released in November. Assume a similar cycle here.

Also, I am not sure how long they have actually been in Alpha(probably a few weeks), but their comments suggest that the E3 build is a rather early Alpha build.

I mean, defining stages of development is completely arbitrary anyway, and it should NOT be surprising that different companies define things differently.

Now due to the game having a fully fledged editor it is also entertaining for some to create art with it for singleplayer maps or custom maps with intention of releasing map or just screens.

Too bad the console versions were not getting an editor ala FC2 but with more robust gametype modifying.

The best parts of the game where also before the (WTF ?!) alien world. My opinion wouldn't be that negative if it'd stopped there.

Glad I'm not the only one that hated the Alien parts inside the mountain. That part was really REALLY bad IMO. The carrier part redeemed the game a bit though.

Not uncommon, Bungie is one of the very very rare devs that have an extensive and exhaustive BETA cycle.

I've seem some games leave Alpha and spend 1-2 months in BETA at most before heading off to duplication. Then another 2-4 weeks of BETA after RTM and a large patch on release day. Followed by multiple patches over the next 2-4 months if the game sells well enough. If not the patches stop and you are forever left with a buggy game.

Maybe creations on PC can be transfered/modified for console version like UT3. Who knows it might happen or not but one can hope!

I would love to do a particle mod for Crysis 2 PC/console!

Mind you I was not a fan of Far Cry at all, I thought the best part of Crysis was the Sandbox editor.

If Crytek REALLY wanted to make a name and niche in the CROWDED console market they would one-up FarCry 2 and ship an even more robust editor--on consoles.

Right now I don't see anything in the material shown that makes me want the game. Maybe the graphics, but I won't get excited about those until we know it doesn't get a downgrade grenade.

So this wasn't 360 footage then:

If it's PC running at 360 spec, does anyone think they can pull it off on the console?

I like the HUD with it's bob when you move, it looks very cool and dynamic.
That was technically running off a PC

And I absolutely believe they can pull it off. They probably already have it running on the Xbox 360 like that. They just took the safe demo to E3, because there was no reason not to.

Possibly, but the IQ in those vid's was much higher that the console footage from the GDC tech demo.

Still would have been nice to see it running on a physical 360. So many other games demos do with no problems.

But I do believe it will probably look like that on 360. It definitely looks like a console game to me, though a very nice one.

Makes perfect sense in the context of the engine tech that they have.

They can simply change a few variables to modify the specs of the game at will. Press a button and it can compile a PC build of the game using the Xbox 360 specifications as a guideline to determine the overall image quality. Any build that they make can be compiled to run on ANY platform. So what they are doing is taking their Xbox 360 build of the game, and then running it on the PC. It isn't the PC build of the game, it is the Xbox 360 build. It just happens to be running on the PC because their tech allows them to do that without any additional work.

It was repeated so many times it started to become the truth :LOL:http://www.crytek.com/technology/presentations/

No... Their comments seem to suggest that it was actually the case. "PC, 360 spec" when asked what it was running on is a pretty definitive answer when considered in the context of what their engine can do. It literally means they are running the Xbox 360 build of the game on the PC(something that doesn't make sense in the context of most games, but makes perfect sense in the context of this game given that their engine was designed to allow them to essentially create builds that work on ALL platforms automatically).

Of course the IQ is higher... the GDC tech demo was based off a build that was like 8 months old back at GDC(according to Crytek). An extra year of polish and work is obviously going to make it look better.

Not just that, but I don't see how it makes a difference either way. The two possible answers to the question are
a) streaming Xbox 360 live video onto the PC through Xbox Neighboorhood
b) Running the Xbox 360 build of the game on the PC.

Either way, this is effectively "console footage".
