[360, PS3] Crysis 2

The game is starting to develop a lot of hype. Not surprising given it's high level of graphics which is what drives hardcore hype most of the time. Last I looked it had an extremely high user rating on it's videos on gametrailers too, an indication a broader segment of gamers is liking it. I think it will be anywhere from a big to a huge seller by the time it comes out.

Crysis has been the poster child for high end graphics for a while, but is it the kind of FPS that will attract console gamers? Or in other words, do you think it can compete with COD/Halo/Battlefield (which are well established franchises in the console world)?

Being awesome on the technical side is one thing, selling like hot cakes is an entirely different kettle of fish.

As mentioned earlier in the thread (a few messags up). The game is running on a PC with an XBOX360 controler...

We dont really know this as totally confirmed for all footage. We just have two instances where it's highly likely. The 120 hz tearing thing on the GTTV footage, and the crash to desktop on one other demo. This could lead one to assume it's likely all demos at E3 are on PC, but it's not proven, though I agree it's the most likely assumption.

I think (hope?) all the footage with X360 buttons is what the console version will look like. None of it seems so amazing it requires a high end PC, definitely looks console specced. I wish an interviewer would shoot a question about what version it is during one of these demos.

Guy from Crytek said that footage was either 360 version or PC with 360 specs. They also said trailer is PC footage in real time.

This is quote from some mag that seen it behind closed doors. They were shown same level but said frame rate suffers.Thats probably reason why they released that PC footage but with console settings.

"After all the graphics level is high, and dynamic expression of light & shadow are great. But lags occur frequently(360 version). It doesn't run smoothly, when we need. And load-time is long. I feel they need huge optimization before release. They can't raise system requirements like PC on console. There is difficulty only on console."

I get the feeling that the actual hype isn't that big and the competition is too much for Crytek. All they really have is this nanosuit which is already boring...

I'm just hoping this isn't 100% city. Am I the only one that thinks a combo city/jungle/alienscape would be the most fun? Maybe they're holding back on some of the more interesting bits, I sure hope so :). If not we are going to need Nebula to load up the old Crysis levels with CryEngine 3

Great interview and Nathan really goes into depth to explain the games mechanism etc which is greatly appreciated!

Making of "The Wall" trailer:

Also, a good picture of the skin shading (with SSS):

Something fake but not SSS... I really don't like the glorifying of these heavily simplified approaches...

Yeah a lot of potentially good shooters this holiday season.

Reach, COD, MoH, Crysis 2... Was the new Ghost Recon this year also? Also I think BF:BC Vietnam is this year? Not sure on those last two though. And it doesn't let up a single bit with a bunch more big shooters launching spring of next year.

I think Crysis has a chance, but with all those shooters someone is going to come up short. My guess is MoH will be odd man out.

SB

Cryteck does have a reputation for graphics now and lets be fair the average console core gamer only give about graphics.

So is COD MW1/2 good looking then? Halo games? And why is KZ2 not selling that well? :)

Seriously though, in this pretty strong lineup, Crysis 2 would have a hard time even if it's graphical superiority was unquestionable; but it really isn't...

Those two cod mw 1/2 and Halo:Reach have a other factor and that is solid gameplay. KZ 2 not so much from what i heard and experienced myself. Could go on about the kz 2 gameplay short comings for me personally but that will only derail the thread but one thing it had no soul there was just missing something to keep me playing.

My point is: despite all the talk, graphics are not the highest factor in sales.

But a game with good graphics does get a free ride in review scores.
Graphics in most cases equal hype in journalist and consumers and you know then that the game will score mostly 90+ and the metacritic wars begin again. I probably spend way to much time on gaming forums now that i have a lot of freetime.
