[360, PS3] Crysis 2

This looks much worse than Crysis. But then again, console vs pc. what can one expect.

Im guessing going from jungle to city also has a big impact. Harder to make an openworld city than openworld jungle island look good.

It is the reverse. It is far harder to make a believable, interactible/dynamic, good looking jungle than city. Been there done maps, citys are by far easier to get pretty while still having lots of spare resources. The taller and denser the city buildings are the better for perfomance vs visuals.

Where talking about going upwards 2x or more in perfomance gains while having same or better IQ. You save so much by not having to do 3D water rendering, water reflections, tons of vegetation moving forcing shadows to be updated at any distance, very limited occlusion culling and more expensive terrain geometry to model all bumps etc et etc.

I think it looks pretty darn good, maybe even better than Crysis PC all things considered.

Crysis PC is beginning to "age" in just a few area. One example is the gun models, they didn't get as much love as some of todays shooters like Killzone 2 imo, and look a little almost dated, though still very good.

In the end Crysis 2 console will look like Crysis PC with a mix of low to very high settings though.

I like the last two shots a lot though, stylistically/colorwise.

Sure if it was Crysis 2 PC only, they'd be disappointing, but only noobs expect that. Then again if it was PC only, I'd still be pretty excited because it looks good and maybe it will actually run 60 FPS with ease. I have a beefy rig (Q6600, 4GB RAM, overclocked HD 4890) and the last level of Crysis is often literally a slideshow even dialed back to high settings, though most of the game I was able to play at 25-30FPS on very high.

Edit: Just saw the new scans. I really dont see how people are going to say this isn't the best looking console game if it looks like that on console! The top shot=geez.

You can tell they are limiting the draw distance with haze/buildings/fog/smoke though.

Cant wait for E3 video.

Exactly my thoughts...some people(not here) act like thats "ok" for consoles.WTF???How???I mean my mind blows just by thinking how this looks in motion,or better yet how PC version looks in motion...seriously,geez:LOL:

Nah just becouse they dont have constant DOF/blur applied doesnt detract from their high polygon count, high shader detail and highres textures. Might be a bit hard to appreciate considering most guns are dar/black but just look at gauss rifle or alien gun etc.Enter accessory select menu and see the weapon angled. There is also 2 modes to view weapon, one is similar to KZ2 style with DOF on weapon while not viewing trough aim reticule and the other is standard mode viewing through aim reticule with DOF. It is in options menu.

The last level leaks badly at mid to end part. Its a bit of luck involved if one actually manages to finish it in DX10 v.h before it crashes if yo utake your time!

I don't know man, there's something about kz2's rifle that oozes out that CGI feel. Maybe it's the lack of aliasing or a superb metal shaders and to this date, I have yet to see a better looking gun than killzone's.

But the DOF gives it a CGI'ish look especially during reload. It also got great artwork. Though Crysis also gets the CGI'ish effect during reload with DOF, object motionblur etc. The nice thing is that most weapons look really good and well detailed while KZ2 really only the main rifle looks great while shotgun and others are more like 'Fallout 3''ish wepons in IQ/style which is OK.

The rocket launcher in KZ2 also looks really great and in the same quality as the rifle, the metal sheen is pretty much perfect when you reload it. I think their more curved surface also helps as the light can be reflected more, I always wondered how many polys have gone into that rifle.

I thought pretty much every weapon in KZ2 (except maybe the nade launcher & SMG) looks on the same level as the ISA rifle.

Me too (like the sniper rifle) ! but whatever. Any Crysis 2 video yet ? This is the first time they make a PS3 game. It'd be unreal for them to get it right the first time

Need to look at videos. The way light reflects off the guns, and the game world (e.g., smoke) around us make them look "solid". You should be able to see screenshots that show the standard rifle looks normal. too.

But same tale goes for many other games. The shading on surfaces are best viewed in motion.

*shrug* [I have no idea !]

I just saw a KZ2 grenade launcher reloading video:
http://www.videogamer.com/ps3/killzone_2/download/killzone_2_gameplay_clip12_hd.html#

The grenade launcher looks dark in the above video (except during reloading). I remember it looked lighter when I played it in the desert level. In general, the weapons all look "consistent" in-game. I don't particularly remember the standard rifle standing out much.

Should go back to Crysis 2.

What are we fighting in Crysis 2 ? Aliens ?

Wow are those with a modded graphics configuration? Looks really good, much like the original Trailer from 2006.

The human enemies are PMCs being deployed by Crynet Systems I think. Crynet did appear as I guess the "creator" of the vehicle weapon/suit linking system if you perhaps remember from Crysis 1. Perhaps we have a three way fight between the US military/whats left of humanity, Crynet Systems, and the Aliens. Should be interesting.
