[360, PS3] Borderlands

Crazy: I just found a weapon which fires plasma spheres (600 damage) and has UNLIMITED ammo...just needs some seconds to regenerate energy, what the heck!?!?

Yes, but it's very slow moving and so large that it tends to hit all kinds of furniture before it can hit it's target. It's also very inaccurate at medium/long range. So unless your enemy is standing still in an open space, it's not that great. You're better off unloading a high spec normal/elemental effect weapon into anything. Give it a go, the high spec makes it look good, but it's actually pretty annoying and difficult to use, especially in any enclosed space or anything but a static target.

yeah, you are definitely right...I just keep it for the sensation, but it is rather limited in use! It is okay, when you attacking a crowd in a rahter open space...then the large bullet is likely to hit, but during a tense, short range fight it has no use for me. Just for the kicks, I went to the Skugzilla boss again to try the weapon...but even in this case I had to switch to my sniper...

Yes, there are Eridani versions of all the standard weapon types. Shotgun, Pistol, Sniper Rifle, Rocket Launcher, and Automatic weapons. What you found was the Rocket Launcher version.

My favorites are the automatic version and the shotgun version. The shotgun version has "bullets" that will bounce one time.

But other than the cool factor, they aren't much good, IMO. Especially if you have a weapon or class mod you can swap in with ammo regen.

Just beat it, most disappointing end boss, ever. Took less than a minute to kill, I was level 36.
I just stood still after watching the cutscene, did not even move a bit. I just aimed at the creature's face and spammed rockets. It died before it even got a chance to attack me, I didn't have any damage, none at all. It took about 4 reloads of the launcher and it was dead. I am a soldier and didn't even use the turret. Getting there was a lot more challenging fighting those guardians.
I also occasionally encountered the flashing sky colors bug on the PS3, but only in rust commons. Happened on different days, but went away after I opened up inventory/pause menu, or sometimes just changing the camera angle to show all ground.

Yep, same for me.

Elemental mod impacts

So, I got through the game but by the time I got to the Crimson Lance, I had to reshuffle my stats because my Bloodwing would do fixed damage and the other skill trees do additive or multiplicative weapon damage, so you were right about that.

Bloodwing was great for the early & mid game, but at the end of the game, my guy is far more deadly using the Sniper tree. I think I'm level 37 now.

Anyway, since you guys were right about that, I figured I'd ask another question I can't find an answer to.

What is the effect of elemental class mods? For example, as a Hunter, I can get Assassin class mods that do x% corrosive damage. Does that just apply to weapons? Does it apply to grenades if I have a corrosive grenade mode equipped? And even more interestingly, does it apply to your special skill? For example, if I equip Bloodwing with a corrosive artifact, will that x% corrosive damage from my class mod be applied to his damage as well?

If you play the Soldier class and equip a shock trooper mod, will it increase the shock damage done by your turret if you have a shock artifact?

...and is shock the most worthless elemental or is it explosive? Haven't figured that out yet.

All the elements have their uses...

Lightning obviously excells at taking out shields, but still doesn't decent DoT damage.

Corrosive excels against heavily armored foes. Crimson Lance for example, where it's by far the best damage choice. Has a weak DoT and can transmit to other enemies occasionally.

Fire excels against unarmored foes. Has a strong DoT.

Explosive does a lot of damage instantly. Explosive is probably the best all around (other than pure physical), but as such is weak in the face of elements strong to a certain enemy type.

+% damage to elements should modify all damage from weapons or abilities. Not sure if it modifies pet damage, but I would imagine it should.

Elemental damage weapons excel if you can get a weapon with a high trigger chance so you can inflict the special bonus damage. HINT - elemental weapons with a Named special in ability list usually (but not always) indicates a weapon with 100% trigger chance. You can easily test to see by just shooting a wall and see if the special triggers always or just occasionally.

I love all the elements depending on the situation. Although if you max the final ability in the Sniper tree, it's not that great since you ignore shields with sniper weapons anyway at that point. That said my sniper still uses a sniper rifle with lightning x4 and 100% trigger rate. But then he carries around 5 sniper rifles just for the hell of it. :D

You guys mentioned that you reset your stats...how does this work?
Do you find an item or something like that, or is there a specific NPC who can do this??

Right now, as a Sniper with specialized Sniper Tree and some of the Gun tree...I fell very mighty and strong (even my sniper ammo regens!!)...for instance the crimson lance guys (up to now) die like flies...although I don't need stronger weapons at the moment, I am wondering, because the last 2 hours playtime I could not find a better weapon and am still using a sniper with about 240 dmg and 4xfire (or whats it called)...I don't suppose that this is the strongest weapon available in this game

Budda - I'm pretty sure that trespass skill (bypass shields) applies to ALL weapons, not just Sniper rifles. Which is what I was doing when I was focused on the Bloodwing, I was also getting the skills (such as deadly which is critical hit damage?) that work with ALL weapons while ignoring the sniper specific skills such as caliber (damage) and whatever the clip size was because those were specific to sniper rifles, which is great but I've learned lots of times you can't just use sniper rifles.

Billy - you can reshuffle your stats for a very reasonable price at any of the NEW-U stations where you can change your color, etc. It's kinda hidden, you have to scroll down to the bottom under where they ask you what color you want your underwear to be, there's an option to reset your stats. It took me a while to find it. It's there, and its obvious when you know where it is, but it didn't stick out to me immediately, either.

And back on the notion of elemental damage.. has anybody played Zombie Island? Are they like completely immune to corrosive damage? And almost completely immune to shock damage? I started it both as part of my first walkthrough and 2nd walkthrough and neither time corrosive damage did anything at all to them, shock barely effects them at all and explosive isn't even that much better. It's all about fire damage.

Playing just now on my 2nd walkthrough, (level 42 zombies.. I'm level 37), I had to use my explosive revolver with ammo regeneration because I ran out of ammo on all my other weapons, so I switched to a gunslinger mod I've been carrying around forever just incase I wanted to try out that side of the tree.. I still didn't reshuffle my stats, but just using that pistol with the gunslinger mod that gives 78% fire rate & +something reload, I can see how that gunslinger side of the tree can be just incredible.

That's kinda what makes this game fun. I thought the bird was the best skill ever, and then I tried the sniper tree and it was fantastic, and now.. I haven't even tried the gunslinger side but just from applying that mod and having a revolver with regenerating ammo I can tell that if I loaded up that side of the tree, it'd be devastating.

Cool game, all and all. Especially when you consider the 4 player co-op.

If any you guys are playing Xbox and want to play, send me a PM or hit me up on Live Rancidlnchmeat. (No "U" in lunch, I lost the credit card # to my original Xbox account)

Ha...playing PC is like cheating: paying less money for the game, getting better graphics+performance and better controls...I don't usually take the easy road ;) (just kidding, but I am definitely starting to look jealous to the PC gaming crowd, thinking about becoming a member myself!)

The +damage skill for sniper only is good. And I find the +ammo capacity for sniper rifles indispensible as low ammo capacity and reloading is one of the big drawbacks of using sniper rifles as a primary weapon. That said, there isn't really a "bad" build depending on how you play.

I finally found a class mod with sniper ammo regen, so could get rid of all other weapons if I wanted, but I still carry around revolvers anyways. But I still only swap it in when I run out of ammo. I like running around with a class mod with +3 Rare item drops. Makes finding uber weapons slightly easier.

The Gunslinger side and focusing on revolvers (pistols are bleh) is absolutely deadly at close-medium range. And you can even occasionally get a nice revolver with scope and 92+ accuracy. Gunslinger is probably the easiest/most well rounded of the Hunter builds.

That said, the Girl is my favorite solo character now. SMG's just rule (Revolvers a very close second) for all around damage/usefulness. But might be a bit tougher if you don't have SMG ammo regen mod.

Sniper Rifles and Revolvers still rule for one shot kills though. :D And in groups I probably favor lurking behind as sniper man.

Just finished the game yesterday (I did a lot of the side missions but not all) with level 37 sniper. My sniper skills are at level 22 or so and I used a sniper class mod which provides nice ammo regen: the end and all this stuff was rather a walk in the park due to me being a one hit wonder

I then restarted my second play through to see whats going on, and the first missions and bosses are still no challenge...I decided to buy the Zombie Island DLC and tried it: was shocked that the mission level was 42, i.e. all zombies are at level 42, so no chance for me at all: I needed about 50 "one hit wonder" shots to kill one braindead...I then had to switch to "playthrough 1" which results in a "normal" classification of the level difficulty (zombies are now level 35 and rather easy, but there are a lot of them).

All in all, despite the many technically flaws (PS3 version: framerate at the end sometimes 'reach' ME's framerate, fire effects and other effects consists of 3-4 big pixels , ...), some being patched (I never had any sound issues after the patch), this is one of my absolute favorite games this year and I had a ton of fun.

For the sequel, I wish that they increase the story part and the character parts and use more of the brilliant sarcasm and humor (
intergalactic ninja assassin FTW or Dr. Ned....who has nothing in common with Dr. Zed from the previous strory, ...
) , tune some tech flaws and provide some more different settings (Zombie Island is ultra refreshing and looks really good!!) but keep everything else as it is!!!!!

EDIT: finished the Zombie Island DLC: phantastic...nearly every flaw of the main game gone: great funny (denser) story, great sarcasm, better framerate, nicer graphics...really funny and entertaining. Still remaining: I have to shoot 250 zombie heads to get their brains!!!

Seems like you started ZI right where I did, Level 37 sniper and 2nd playthrough but then you bailed! Boo! I haven't gotten through it yet, I only managed to turn on the turrets and then go hunting for Dr Zed. Like I said in my earlier thing, yeah.. it takes like 5-6 critical hits (using a volcano sniper!) to take one lvl 42 zombie down. But I'm working my way through. The humor and feel of ZI is really top notch so far.

I know you bailed back to easy mode, but what weapons were you using? Or did you have one of those unlimited sniper ammo mods? I need to get one of those, that would make things a lot easier.

 I am weak...

I have a sniper mod with ammo regen and used the volcano sniper (about 250 dmg + 4xfire dmg)...although I switched to easy mode, there were still some situations which got hefty for me, so good luck for you my brave friend
FYI: after ZI, I am now at level 41 (= you have to kill a lot of zombies!)

As a hint which I can give: try to get the mission "Braiiiiiiiiiins" (you can find it in Hallow Ends somewhere) as fast as possible, otherwise you are collecting the zombie brains for nothing until you get the mission (btw, I recognized that it is much easier to get the brains, when using a non-elemental revolver compared to a sniper, which tends to be to strong to get the brains)

and be prepared for some fine entertainment

yeah, I keep picking up the brains for no reason other than they start to clutter the field.

Does anybody know if the zombies regenerate after a period of time or is it after you advance past a certain point? I'm trying to be cautious, kill them, buy more ammo, go back out and kill more (rinse & repeat) and it was working until I got ALMOST to the point where you pick up the 2nd echo device on the 'find my husband' mission, and then ALL the zombies & the corpse eaters all regenerated and I had to start all over again.

So I don't know if I went too far away from the area so those enemies respawned, or if I took too long? I figure it's a function of distance rather than time, but I'm not sure.

This sure would be a lot easier with an ammo regeneration mod. It's a sniper mod? What other benefits did it give besides ammo regeneration?

I'm still level 38 I think... thinking about bailing back to fryestone so I can reshuffle my stats to a gunslinger, since that's the mod & weapon I'm using anyway because of the unlimited ammo.

I really hate how every elemental weapon and mod I'm finding on ZI is corrosive and corrosive does ZERO damage to them. I've tried a bunch of times and just seeing all these zero's floating off of them is really quite sad :(

For the brains mission, go to hallows end, there you can find it (its a little bit hidden)

Hm, I was asking this myself...because when you do the Braiiiiiiiiiins mission, I really have to look around to find some zombies, but I did not understand when they respawn...sometimes they do (then with lesser number) and sometimes they don't...you could be right that distance is the driver and not time!

Yep, this is a sniper mod...it gives +9 ammo regen, +3 focus skill (question to you: when I get +3 focus skill and I have already upgraded to 4/5 focus...do I get 7/5 focus and some extra bonus, or do I just get 5/5 focus and the remaining +2 is lost???) and some accuracy or critical hit dmg increase

Yeah, I also have a gunslinger mod with ammo regen and a lot of other skills packed in...it works as well (if you have a good revolver!)

All in all, the loot in ZI was not so good for me either, did not find any usefull weapon.

Class mods stack on top of your skill base, so if you have 5/5 in the skills with +3 mod, you'll get 8. That's what was making my bloodwing build so crazy, with the class mod he could attack EIGHT targets at once.

I'll have to see if I can find that braaaaaains mission, I think I'm more than halfway through now. Co-Op with a soldier makes things almost easy even on the 2nd play through, his turret does a nice job of mowing them down, although he was surprised the first few times they came running at him right past his shield! Ha!

I did go back and respec to a gunslinger, of course now I've got his shield that regens ammo so I'd probably have been better off staying sniper, but the gunslinger tree and mod really deals out tremendous damage!

Beat Zombie Island missions last night. It was quite difficult to start out with but by the end of it, we ran through it much easier. Now we're at level 46 each. Then we went back to the 2nd playthrough we'd be working on and just absolutely destoryed anything infront of us. Areas that kicked our ass before were walkthrough. Quite satisfactory considering the hell some of these parts were at one point.

Looking forward to hitting level 47 though. Got a 725dmg sniper with 4x explosive damage waiting for me :)
