[360, PS3] Batman: Arkham Asylum

^ Thats from the first cutscene which is a pre recorded FMV.
[I think every cutscene in this game will be an FMV]

After playing the demo, I immediately pre-ordered from Amazon ($48). It's a very polished and impressive experience that captures the essence of Batman. I also like the character bios and trophies you collect.

It reminds me of Wolverine, down to UE3 and "Feral Sense", but the gameplay is much more stealth oriented, and like Wolverine, it's a lot of fun!

Very impressed with the demo. Probably will buy it.

The graphics especially were totally unexpectedly awesome. I was expecting some typical Unreal licensed movie license game. But this looks like one of the best games I have seen this generation.

 It's not based off of the movie, man.

I'd have to say that cape is probably the most impressive real-time cloth object I've seen yet (personally). I'd be curious to see if it's any different in the pc version.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the demo. I'm definitely pre-ordering this.

The cape is the same regardless of the version or regardless of physx on or off...its just that with physx set to advanced u get some cloth to tear in the last part of the demo.

nope, all the cutscenes in the demo are prerendered.

I thought the scene when Batman enters the asylum and talks to Gordon was in-game. I tried skipping some of the more detailed cutscenes immediately and I got a "loading" sign; wasn't the case with that one.

I'm sold on the game for sure. The demo as brief as it is, was a lot of fun and everything is so faithful to the comic's tone. The VA is topnotch too.

EDIT: Maybe not, they all appear pre-rendered.

Finally traded in some games & added some cash to my pre-order. Still got like $30 left go. Man, I don't think I'll ever spend this much on a game ever! LOL Anybody got their pre-orders paid off yet?

Won't be preordering since I don't do Batman anymore. My college roommate was a huge fan. I benefited from his collection ^_^. Will likely buy it based on people's positive feedback @ launch !

Thanks to all the game delays, I figured I'd pre-order the CE from Amazon.ca (soon after the demo came out). Hopefully I'll be getting one as they've recently stopped taking pre-orders... so it must be rather limited.

Looking good. Can't wait to get it next week.

Joystiq Review

Hyperbole can be venomous to a review's credibility. Any insightful merit which a video game critique may possess seemingly goes out the window as soon as the reviewer starts dropping bombs like "best game ever" or "literally mindblowing" or "it will birth you anew in its magnificence." Perhaps it is because we've all heard these phrases -- save for that last one -- so many times that they've lost their currency with us.

Rest assured, I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that Batman: Arkham Asylum is unquestionably the best licensed game I've ever played. At the end of the day, however, that's a fairly low hurdle to clear -- it better reflects the game's quality to say it's one of the best stealth-action games ever made, and easily the best video game 2009 has had to offer thus far.

So far every review is above 9.
Seems like the game is really good & can be a worthwhile contender for GOTY 09.

A licence even affects reviewers. It's blinding them by virtue of the miracle of a good licenced game. I'm thinking that the score should have one point detracted if you're not a reviewer who's stunned by a good licenced game, and another point detracted if you're not a Batman fan. In my case, that leaves a 7/10, which may be a bit too harsh - the demo gave me a strong 7.5 vibe. ;)

7 is still all nice for me ;) ...I'm not among the new wave of people who like to think anything below 9 is average. :p
