[360, PS3] Batman: Arkham Asylum

So you aren't used to cartoony Batman and this one is?

Bah, that kinda sucks. I thought the previews looked all dark and brooding.

This is done by Paul Dini, the same guy that brought you the original Batman: The Animated Series (BTAS) & it's sequels. It is however, not as cartoony as those shows. Sits between The Dark Knight & original BTAS. Probably similar in scope & story to Batman: Gotham Knight, the PG-13 rated Japanese anime mini-stories on DVD. BTW, for those that pre-ordered the game from GameStop you'll be getting the really creepy Scarescrow Dem Bones Challenge Map...

It's not really cartoony, but yeah, there's a lot of the B:AS and DCU stuff to it. I can't remember what Gordon sounded like. Not sure I like Harley Quinn... yeah, she has the same voice, but now she has this sex-moppet look that doesn't seem to fit the voice. Also, in a bit of a lost opportunity IMO (spoilered if you're on media blackout)
it looks like Zsasz is taken out as part of the stealth tutorial, very quickly -- doesn't look like there'd be a cool knife vs. fist fight, not that I know how this game'd do that
.

I liked it; what I saw of combat was fun, though maybe simple, but it looks good. And the stealth is a novel approach, I think -- you're much more powerful than your quarry, for the most part, except they have guns and you don't, and that's very different from how most stealth games work. Also easy, but I hope that's because of the demo.

It reminded me of Splinter Cell mixed with Bioshock. I hope the full game holds up well and does not get repetitive.

I like the art in this game...perfect use of UE3 too.

Combat is very fluid but less tedious & easy...since its a demo I'll give it the novelty of being like that, just hope the final game is harder & its difficulty is not just limited to boss battles or enemies with plus health.

OMG I cant wait to go home and install this. Hopefully there will be an official sli profile from nvidia soon in their next driver release. I am not sure if the evga sli updater thingy will work if you dont have evga hardware....

I tried the PC ver. too today.
And compared to the PS3 ver. there isnt much diff. [ofcourse except the novelty of having a higher reso & AA].

The Physx as i expected is just a small add on; the difference visible with Physx ON are stuffs like papers on ground move with interaction, There's small cosmetic destruction; Gears 2 style [but this doesnt happens everywhere, just on selected places], and smoke/steam effects at some places that moves when player is near them. [prolly the only impressive part] And then lastly there is this cloth physics [dont understand if they can do Batman's cape without physx then why cant do this] & the cloth found in the last part of the demo are tearable. [well u have the idea how]

Also There are no moveable clutters even with Physx on maximum.

Donno why they are delaying the PC ver. when the thing is so small & is more importantly already implemented there.

P.S.[One major complain I have with physx exclusive games is that they tend to totally remove the special objects when turning physx off. They shud just remove the physx effect from that thing rather than removing that object totally..

why remove the whole cloth when u can just remove the cloth physics ?] :???:

Hah, reminds me of the PhysX support in City of Heroes, then.

Interesting that the non-PhysX person actually may have an easier time, since there's no banners/fog to get in your LoS. I can't remember if the console version had those banners, but I'm guessing not..

I enjoyed the demo quite a bit, though it is too short. Probably played through it 5-6x now. I can see repetition being a problem in the full game, though I still want more unarmed goons to wail on in the demo. Runs really well on my GTX 285 at 25x16 with 8x AA and every in-game option at its highest. The models have that UE3 look to them IMO, about my only gripe over the demo's graphics.

Demo has me very interested, but it is too short. Seems like there are some cool moves. Kind of a Splinter Cell type game, but Batman which is much cooler.

OMG that was an awesome demo! I enjoyed the heck out of it! Finally the Batman game the way it was meant to be. Also its a damn good looking game too. I am playing it at 2560 x 1600 everything cranked except for the AA which is set to 8x and its very beautiful.

Very impressed with the demo. Probably will buy it.

The graphics especially were totally unexpectedly awesome. I was expecting some typical Unreal licensed movie license game. But this looks like one of the best games I have seen this generation.
