300k x360 to ship this week - 1.5million by Dec

The "only 3 million PS2s" is slight of hand, for if I recall that is only NA market. Overall I thought they were sitting around 10 million when the Xbox shipped. The point isn't the number of units headstart, it's about capturing the attention of developers with market and mind share, which the PS2 was very successful at doing.

I'm pretty sure that was his point entirely -- He doesn't believe that Xbox360 will manage to get as big of a unit lead as PS2 had on Xbox, so it likely isn't really comparable. And that Sony has dealt with headstarts before (although the circumstances were different). They seem to think they are ready for it, and have the means to win -- more power to 'em.

Mindshare and developers follow the numbers usually (overall, there's always the payoffs and good marketing that can counteract those two), so I'd say launching early isn't much of an advantage if enough units aren't pumped out there for it to actually be of much use. That seems to be his sentinment. Regardless, it's an interview, so it isn't like hes going to say much positive about a possible advantage the other side has (unless you have a way to counteract it, but this type of thing isn't really something you can counteract) -- that's how it works in these interviews, if you can't beat it, downplay it; if you can, then you praise it.

On a semi related note, I'm anxious to see what MS will show to stop the Sony train at E3 (and before at the feb conference) -- I have a feeling I know what Sony will show.
