Creating "folders" on PS3 XMB?

I don't know if folders is the correct term,but I would like to clean up my PS3 XMB "desktop" by grouping the dozens of videos I have into different categories.
For example "Upcoming Games" or "Carnivale" or "Reptile Porn".
Is there any way to do this yet or is it coming in an update? The current sorting options are insufficient.

I don't think you can do custom folders within XMB.

I remember the only possibilities are:

(A) External USB drive. PS3 will obey the existing folder structure you created on a Mac/PC, but you have to press "Show All Data" everytime when you browse the volume.

(B) Via DLNA. Media servers like TVersity provide their own hierarchy for organizing media. It will also obey an existing folder structure on the PC.

Thanks.I am using those other options but my PS3 is moving towards being almost completely stand alone since I upgraded it's own HDD. In the future,if Sony really wants it to realize the stand alone potential, it should have better desktop organization.

That's great,I just sent my suggestions. I'm sure that they have heard suggested and I wouldn't be surprised if they are already working on it or at least considering it. Especially once their content download service launches the front end will get crowded and messy.
Even if they don't give us the ability to create our own, they should have categories within a larger section. Like under video they could add "TV" or " Movies" for example.

It already has that ability as seen in the DLNA and USB storage file system browsers. They are just currently not letting us make use of that functionality in the other menus. Maybe they think it will make things too complicated.

And why yes, DLNA already allows us to navigate through arbitrary hierarchy even via RemotePlay. It's pretty cool actually.

This has nothing to do with XMB but I don't feel it warrants its own thread so here goes: is it just me or is the browser several times slower than PC browsers? Same goes for the PSP.

It is indeed slower these days for me. The pecking order is roughly like this:
* Mac/PC > PS3 > iPhone (on WiFi) > PSP

Incidentally, you can also exchange files between PSP/PS3 and your PC via the web browser: Run Red Kawa (www.redkawa.com) on the PC.
