Zone of the Enders 2: PAL Special Edition version!

9 and 1/2 hours?????

I beat it the second time through in 4 1/2 hours, w/o skipping cinemas :p

Heh, I played through on normal and didn't hurry - though at times I left the game running and had a break etc. Not sure how accurate the time is, but I probably had something above 7 excluding those breaks.

I figure the continues (70 times) is far more embarrasing, though I didn't save a lot and sometimes got myself killed on purpose to give it a new try (or for practise reasons). Heh, the game is awesome, I LOVE IT!

I'll probably play through on Hard / Very Hard now... though with Jehuty (normal version)...

As far as Framerate goes: I'd say the game ran a constant framerate most of the time (>95%) - so constant in fact that it's a non-issue in this game. The only sequence in which the framerate did drop noticably, was the part with the many buildings, in which you could make the framerate drop by destroying the buldings using a burst attack. Other than that, I can't remember to have experienced real noticably slowdown. Not even one drop in the last episode with the LEVs and the hundreds of enemies.

Like I said, that's most likely a PAL tweak, because the 'epic battle' with tons of LEVs was probably in the 20s on NTSC!

something to make some people jealous:

completed the game (2nd time round) in HARD mode in like little less than 3 hours...

anyway, thats not the thing...

i started playing the game in Progressive Scan (with the Blaze VGA Adaptor) and let me say....... WOW.... i mean.... WOWWWWW...
the game is much faster (it runs at 60hz of course) and i'm pretty sure it is the best way to play the game, since this is the PAL version (with less slowdown) still played at 60Hz in pro-scan.
the game looks absolutely amazing, much more beautiful than it already is....
the only problem is, VSync must be turned off for some reason (like it was in MGS2 and some others) so that gives some weird effects, still NOTHING to be worried about, u can hardly see it... one thing that REALLY looks amazing is.... well, everything.... the detail is "sprumped up" (guess where i got that word from and u'll win a teddy bear) and the additional speed really is a breath of fresh air after spending hours playing the game at 50Hz (damn u konami, why wont u put the frikking option in your games!!)...

oh, i got the Official PS2 mag with Jak2 demo (and i played it in mighty proscan)(WOW), if u guys wanna hear opinions i can start a new thread, but ask me or i wont, never liked opening new threads....

Is the final boss (Aumaan Anubis) much harder in PAL version than it was in JP and US versions? I'm playing on Normal.
I've read that it should be easier to beat than the Anubis before it, but I'm having difficulties getting the slashes to hit it.
I can beat it onto the red health, but then it starts to shoot those red zigzagging lines that trap me and bursts that finally drain my health to zero.
Really like this game a lot, it's a bit of old-xchool gameplaywise, as you must learn many the bosses' patterns in order to beat them. At first they seem impossible, but after a few tries you learn their weaknesses. It's refreshing to see a game that forces you to pay attention, too many games give you the option to either learn to play 'properly' or just cheat by bashing buttons madly. I'd already almost forgotten how good it feels when you finally beat a hard boss.

I dunno if Aumaan Anubis is harder or not, but the trick to beating him is to do a homing laser attack whenever he tries to fire a burst, use your shield to stop his zig-zagging red lines, zero-shift in close and slash with your sword. Do a regular attack first (just attack with square, slash wildly). He will start to block with his hexagon tiles that follows him around. When he does that, do a burst-slash to break through his block.

He should die eventually. :)

I didn't know you could use the shield! As against previous Anubis it didn't work I thought it's be out of order, then again Yehuty does have its basic lasers functional again...
Thanks :)

Are you talking about the tearing or is it something more serious?

yeah, a really good trick is to zero-shift then as soon as u "reappear", boost-shift away from Anubis then strike him, possibly with a burst-attack (which when close to an enemy is a powerful single slash).
sometimes u'll just boost away too far from anubis, still, many times u'll boost just behind him or next to him and he will be too confused to see where u are, therefore vulnerable and u'll finish him soon enough.
this technique is a bit painful to watch (it gets too fast, u'll have to "feel it" more than actually watch it, but hell it works well with ANY boss...)
Keep shooting lasers at his burst attack and especially when he tries to recover damage.
i beat him with little to NO damage at all now on any difficulty with that method.

are you fighting him in the tunnel? I died a couple of times before beating him, but you should be able to beat him fairly easy by following these steps:
  • stay away from him but not too far. By doing this, he won't use the attack with the zick-zack lines that often.
  • when he does his burst attack (the one where this object comes flying out, dash around him getting closer. Once the object passes you, dash towards him and then hit him. I don't think you even need zero-shift, it should work without.
  • when he does the zick-zack attack, dash around like mad or use zero-shift to move past them and then continue to dash around. You should be able to get away with minimal damage if any.
  • don't always attack him, it's better to wait until he does his burst attack as he'll be unprotected for a limited amount of time.
Following these steps, it was possible for me to beat him with next to no damage on normal. Hope this helps. :D

Thanks all!
I did get through the 'Anubis in tunnel' boss quite easily, as after you learn the pattern, it is just more or less a question of patience. The last boss on tte other hand is much faster, and seems to be better at blocking the regular slashes.
Must try the burst slash (or whatever it's official name) as it temporarily breaks the shield and makes more damage, but on the other hand it throws the enemy too far and even 0-shifting isn't fast enough to reach him before he recovers.
Often I take most damage from those red zigzaggers that manage to take me by surprise, will try the newly discovered shield, tham should help.

The 'Polygon Demos' are Konamis name for the realtime story sequences.
There are no other 'Polygon Demos'.
Even in the manual the in-game realtime movies are called 'Polygon Demos'
I don't know which of those movies (Polygon Demos) were new for European Special Edition.
So, don't waste your time looking for those elusive 'Polygon Demos' london-boy :)
