XNA In Action on Xbox 360 (Video)

Found a great video interview from Channel9 where they interview Frank Savage at Microsoft. He's the development manager for the XNA team. People might remember him as the director of Wing Commander III. He demos the XNA Game Studio Express tool and it's interaction with the XNA Game Launcher on a retail Xbox 360. They deployed a game called XNA Racer from ExDream. I was really impressed with what they were able to do with the free tool. Game was running in 1080p at 30fps using 2xMSAA all written with just C#. Wow. Can't wait to see what other people can do with it.

Enjoy.

Oh man, Wing Commander III! That was a great series...

Well, he gets my respect right there.

That was very cool.

Does anyone know if it's as simple as transporting your harddrive to play your work on another system? Even if they don't have an XNA subscription?

I'm also curious as to what kind of dev tools will be available for free on the PS3.

Sounds like it. They said during the video that once you've deployed the game to the system you no longer need the connection to the PC and Game Studio Express. I've read elsewhere that the Creator's Club Subscription allows you to download the XNA runtime and it's tied to your Live account. One would assume that as long as you have a connection to Live and can log in then you should be able to take your hard drive anywhere to play your XNA games.

If your gamertag is inside the harddrive and you log in on live with it the yes it should be :p

That looks very cool. I feel that tingling inside me - "I wanna make a game with that". The possibility of writing a game in relatively simple managed code, that will run on both 360 and PCs is really quite cool. Sure, you won't write a Gears of War with C#, but a small arcade game or 2.5D RPG or something should be easily possible within the framework XNA provides. I'm more of an graphics guy than a coder, but this has me tempted...
