No Xbox 2 at CES?

2005_ces.jpg imageSister site Kotaku is speculating that the speculation about the Xbox 2's unveiling at this year's CES might actually be bogus—not because Microsoft didn't plan to do so, but because the platform won't be ready to rumble. Hard to say—a Bill Gates keynote without the Xbox 2 will sort of be ho-hum—but Kotaku has a call into Microsoft, so we'll be sure to let you know when they get their juicy 'No comment.'

It looks better and better for Sony if this is true and still no news about Revolution?

Nintendo will talk about Revolution at E3 just like Sony will talk about PS3 at E3. I think people tend to confuse Cell news with actual PS3 information.

I don't see why Xbox 2 not being ready (I reckon they mean actual hardware) would stop M$ from pimping it at CES. In fact, it would be very unlike M$ to let that be a hindrance.

Some development friends of mine are hearing that the Xbox 2 won’t make a Consumer Electronics Show premier after all. Despite rumors that Gates will unveil the next-gen Xbox during his keynote at the annual show, the latest gossip is that the unveiling is more likely to come at the Game Developers Conference in March.

They may be demo-ing their 'media-centre PC' instead, or just deliver the specs and show a few movies. Regardless, it just occured to me that XB-Next and PS2 may be coming for a confrontation before E3 2005 - at GDC 2005. :devilish:

I expect XNA to be at CES, with titles for pc, Xbox, and perhaps a teaser of what to come/what are the possibilities with Xenon + XNA.

If it's not ready, so what? They'll just wheel out a CGI demo indicating the level of graphics they console is able to achieve (or not able to achieve as was the case with the 'Raven' demo thing for the first Xbox ;) ).

Is there a newer version of MC than what they're selling now? Isn't CES for future products?

If Xenon is launching in 2005, they need to start the hype right? Since Sony is going to present the Cell in February and at E3, if Xenon is going to launch as much as a year before the PS3, MS needs to start their hype train too.

Sony and Nintendo probably won't show the form factor or playable games at E3. But you would expect MS to be able to show more, since Xenon could conceivably launch around 6 months after that show.

if its not ready i doubt they will go with cgi , they will most likely use the newest dev kit possible at the time and have some demos shown.

no big deal if Xbox Next isnt at CES. it'll be at GDC and E3, which are far more important to the videogame industry than CES is these days.

May be more important but CES in January, in Las Vegas, will likely get more media coverage than the GDC, in March, in San Jose.

it wouldn't be a first, the xbox's raven demo was pre-rendered i think.

I would think they have to launch at CES system done or not. They have to get hype building towards a launch. It is going to be fun to see if a bunch of off the shelf parts can compete with billions of dollars in propriatary chips.

indeed it most certainly was. there were at least 2 pre-rendered sequences shown to "demo" what Xbox could do. the Raven sequence and the Afro Thunder sequence. of course these were misleading since real Xbox graphics would never rival those "demos" in complexity or in quality.

dunno.. i'm pretty sure about sony, but not so sure about nintendo. there was at least the infamous realistic zelda demo..

at least i don't see the same amount of unrepresentative screenshots on each system.

i mean screenshot taken at resolutions a lot larger than what is possible with the console, with massive amount of AA, then downscaled to 640x480. and sometimes photoshoped screenshots.

i guess than when the development platform is the PC is makes this so easier and therfore so tempting :)

Can you or anyone provide some links for these demos if they still exist?

Was out of touch with the entire 32bit era, thus also the lead up to this gen.

I think sega is a good example of how to do a tech demo . use tech your making for current engines .

Everything they showed on the dreamcast as demos were surpassed and that was in its short life of 2 years .

Sony and ms should take a page from this by making realistic demos
