XBox One Backwards Compatibility and Xbox One X Enhancements for X360 and OG (XO XOX BC)

I see what both of you mean there. This game's bc looks redundant to me, too. Meh, as if we needed it.

Framerate comparison featuring the original and bc recent title AC Brotherhood:

Halo:CE Anniversary Edition, Halo 3, Halo 3:ODST, Halo 4 coming to backwards compatible later this year:

Today we’re thrilled to announce four more very special additions coming later this year to the Xbox One back-compat program: Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo 4, and Halo: CE Anniversary! Each of these games will include campaign and multiplayer, and will even support LAN play on Xbox One – including LAN play between Xbox One and Xbox 360! Once released, you’ll be able to pop in your original disc or purchase a digital copy of the game via the Xbox Store and jump right in. Best of all, once these titles are added to the program, every Xbox 360 Halo add-on map pack in the Xbox Store will be made available for free, ensuring you have everything you need to achieve maximum enjoyment in online matchmaking or custom games. We know this is something you’ve been asking for, and we’re excited to make these map packs available for all players.

It's interesting to me that they are releasing some of these 360 Halo games in BC. Is the multiplayer populations in the original 360 games separate from Master Chief Collection?

Wondering where the majority of the multiplayer population will be.. MCC or 360 version?...have to think a lot of people own the 360 versions over MCC. Unfortunately I traded in both my copies of Halo 3 and Halo 4 a good while ago..

If you had been getting Games with Gold every month since it started you would have received Halo 3 & Reach for free.

No I wasn't a subscriber during those months.

Either way I'm sure you can pick up these games at EB Games (Canada) for dirt cheap..

They're still selling halo 3 for $20CAD on the digital store...crazy

Well thats seems to be generous of activision. The game was also release for xbox one, so there was no win for them if it is backwards compatible.
If that title works (late last gen) great than I don't see problems for any other xb360 title to run good on xb one.

Completely missed this announcement. Kinda surprised they even bothered with this COD... I own this on 360 but I still feel like if i was gonna play it on Xbox One I'd have to have the better version.

BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

No Halo: Reach. I loved Halo: Reach especially when compared with the relatively meh, Halo 4.

I can't believe Halo: Reach isn't on that list.

I think part of it has to do with COD: Ghosts widely being considered to be by far the worst COD game in the series. I tend to buy all the COD games for the single player, but even I couldn't get myself to buy COD: Ghosts. Especially after the excellent COD: BO3.

It took COD: AW and the much improved COD: IW to erase some of the bad will that the release of COD: Ghosts caused.

[edit] One other consideration is that if there is BC for a title, there's less incentive for someone to sell their game on the used market if they feel they might, at some point in the future, play it again. Less games entering the used game market = good for the publisher and developer.

It's already backward compatible. Added December 2015. :/

Oh, I take back my moral outrage then. :D Now, MS just needs to release them on PC in some form. Although now I have a reason to turn on my XBO again, just to play some of the older Halo games.

As far as fan requests for backward compatibility support it didn't rank as the worse...

I was surprised at how many Call of Duty games got support though.

It shouldn't have been surprising considering how popular the COD series is. Outside of Ghosts, they generally stay in the top 10 for a year. With the better titles staying in the top 10 even after another COD is released leading to there sometimes being months when 2 COD titles are in the top 10 of NPD.

Yeah, 26,808 votes for COD: Ghosts is pretty good. But compare that to some of the more popular games in the series pulling well over 100,000 votes. Dang!

Yeah but we're talking about Activision here & their cash cow.

But think about it.

If someone keeps their title instead of selling it on the used market that's one less copy that someone can buy on the used market. That then means that it's more likely for someone looking to buy an older title to possibly buy a new or digital copy (BC in digital store). Publishers and developers get no money from used sales.

Plus, just having it be BC in the digital online store makes it far more likely someone is going to buy a new copy of game digitally. And a digital copy is going to bring in a lot more money than a physical copy of the game for a publisher. And that's compounded by the fact that one less used copy may have gotten sold.

I totally agree. BC is a great opportunity but for some publishers they would rather you buy their new games or remasters. If all publishers saw it they way we do then every 360 game would be BC.

I believe all publishers would love to have all of their past games available for BC. But the process takes time, so it makes sense for most to want the focus to be on the games they believe have the most potential to bring in new purchases.

Activision in particular, I imagine is really for it now if they weren't before considering that BC being made available for COD: BO2 (5 year old game) made it grab enough new sales to propel it back into the NPD top 10.

And if you look at PC, the availability of old titles doesn't restrict the sales of new titles, and if it does it's a relatively negligible effect. And remasters are sold on PC just as they are on console. Not everyone that already owns an original copy of a game buys a remaster, but quite a few do just to get a nicer looking version of a game which sometimes comes with updates to the gameplay (new Age of Empires remaster is reworking unit pathing, for example). But again, that is no different from consoles.

I was thinking about COD: Ghosts getting a lot of requests for BC despite there being an XBO version available. And I think I might know part of the reason for it. Performance (stable FPS) is absolutely essential for COD due to how much it focuses on competitive multiplayer. In other words, performance consistency is far more important than graphical bling. COD: Ghosts exhibited a LOT of inconsistent performance on XBO, especially after the DLC packs (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-performance-drops-on-cod-ghosts-patch ). It might be that there are fans of the game that want a BC version in hopes that it would offer more consistent framerates than the XBO version of the game.
