XBox One and Windows 10 Programs [UWP, X0, W10]

UWP games will ship for Xbox One during 2017:

XB1 already has streaming install - this is likely just repackaging that tech (possibly with some tweaks/improvements) for the desktop/mobile store.

Nope, I would think not since when you read the description of it you will see it doesn't fit the current Xbox One download and install process at all. There is obviously massive room for improvements compared to PS4 install systems.

+1 Cloudpaging, been asking for it for about 5 years.

If Scorpio can switch to desktop-like interface, it will have way more use for me, because with UWP apps I may be able to use it like a secondary PC. Primarily I use my macbook, but sometimes it would be nice to have a Windows box.

If a full Windows or Windows-lite mode isn't introduced for Scorpio within 6 months of launch I'll livestream myself eating a hat. That would be a no brainer for Microsoft.

it won't be for Scorpio only, it will be for both or neither.
wouldn't mind seeing you eat hat, but not a bet I would take on. :)
with it having uwp on Xbox, pretty much already pc lite.
what would you guys need to consider it such out of curiosity?
I don't expect desktop, but why would you need it?

Windows 10 Mobile's UWP File Explorer app appears on Xbox One:

One step closer to Xbox One being "PC-lite"?

I found this interesting.

Microsoft's Mike Ybarra recently spoke about how Microsoft is eventually planning to allow third-party USB webcams on Xbox One, so it makes sense that you would also be able to use the UWP Camera app to send photographs to your local storage this way.

So Microsoft looking at opening up Xbox to more 3rd party PC peripherals? Interested to see just how far they go with that. Camera's make sense as Skype is a prominent app on XBO, so I may be reading into that more than it actually is. I still don't think they'll allow an Xbox console to compete too much with a PC. IE - it'll never get full desktop functionality as that would compete with their OEM customers where it hurts their OEM customers the most (budget PCs). And that is a definite no-no.

That said, if they do eventually allow KB/M in games as well as making sure every single game released supports a 60 FPS mode on at least the latest generation of Xbox, I may be tempted to get back into gaming on console.

SB

Xbox One supporting a subset of UWP is very different from Xbox One running a version of Windows 10. I pass no comment on Microsoft's motivation on providing Windows support on a platform that will, by then, be four years old with zero visibility in Windows 10 roadmap.

I may be misunderstanding you.
but I think I expect to see you eating a hat 6months after Scorpio release then, where as before I didn't.

I don't see them separating x1 and Scorpio for now apart from vr.
uwp including uwp games will be available to devs later this year on x1, not just a subset of uwp.
do you mean pc lite, meaning win 32 then?
in fact may help if you say what you would need in it to reach pc lite status for you?

A mode that let's you run Windows 10, in what is recognisably Windows 10 desktop mode, and apps that run on Windows 10 using both win32 and UWP APIs. Microsoft's desktop market is in decline, giving away Windows 10 on Microsoft hardware to preserve use of the platform is the blindingly obvious choice.

ok.
I don't expect to see desktop on Scorpio, at least anytime soon, if at all.
even if they wanted to, which I don't think they do. They wouldn't simply due to messaging, if you thought tv was bad, that would be even worse for them.
also don't expect to see win32 apps, especially as they are trying their best to move away from them, for multiple reasons.

Why not do that for XB1 too?

If I recall, Ms is going to introduce Windows Cloud*, to compete with chromebooks with access just to UWP apps, this could come easily to Scorpio.

* apparently it´s already been hacked to run Win32 apps

believe it was hacked using powershell.
Xbox is already running win10, uwp apps, not full uwp games but that's coming this year.

personally I think pc lite doesn't require the desktop or win32.
straight away if you allow win32 and desktop then they may as well forget about 90% of their Xbox revenue.
