X360 Ditching Backwards Compatibility

Valkyrie Profile
While a PR went on record and said that their goal was to be compatible with every Xbox games, I don't think they went as far as promise to be compatible with Playstation games.
I think the game you were thinking about was Gun Valkyrie. ;)

In this case though, with around 800 games, how many of those were exclusive titles that many gamers had not played? Obviously, the MGS games, but as far as I know those are on the list.
Amped 2 and Rallysport Challenge 2 are two games MGS games that sold fairly well and that I'd really like to see working on my 360.

There may be some that are intentionally not being granted bc because MS does not want them compared to 360 games. ie. Rallysport

Until there are sufficient 360 games which are clearly superior on 360 it isn't in their interest to allow xbox games which show up their 360 counter parts.

Speaking of this, where's Rallysport on 360?

That would be pretty shaddy and show some really low confidence in their ablities. I mean if they don't think they can make a game enough better than the previous ones to get fans willing to buy the new one, they might as well just give up now beucase the last thing we need is more shovelware.

No I didn't mean to imply that. I expect the new version of Rallysport to blow the old one out of the water. My speculation was based on Rallysport being in my opinion one of the best looking games on xbox and in my opinion looking a bit more impressive than most of the other racing games on 360.

I think in general though ms doesn't want any direct comparison of x1 and x2 games at least initially because a (very) large portion of them were ports and did not take advantage of the hardware. To many people this turned them off of the system at launch and inluenced a wait and see attitude (myself included).

the team DICE (and the IP I think) that made Rallisport has been sold to EA AFAIK and there are no plans for another Rallisport challenge.

although it was by far one of (if not THE) best looking Xbox game ever.

Well, hopefully they'll keep the team together and put their talent to good use on some 360 goodness. Do you know what the team is working on at the moment?

It would have been nice if ms included AA and native 720 rendering on bc xbox titles but that would only worsen the effect I spoke of. Anyone remember the psx emulation software for dreamcast? That was sweet even though it fell quite short of what they initially promised. The promise of that software was actually one of the reasons I preordered a dc back in the day. Not that I'm complaining abou the decision mind you, but it does remind me of the potential that good bc can have on a purchase decision.

But seriously, If a console maker can't have faith that their "next-gen" games will be notably more impressive than their last-gen stuff running at dolled up settings, they might as well give up now. Plenty of us PC gamers having been getting big boosts to the graphics of our games when upgrading hardware, but that doesn't stop developers pulling off much more impressive stuff on that new hardware and we obviously are still happy to buy such games.

I already know a few guys who have been intrigued enough by MGS3 that they're going through from MGS1 again. And this is 2006 :D

Yeah.. I'll be doing the same... I came close to finishing MSG1 on my PS2 when I got it.. never really go into MSG2... because I wanted to finish MSG1 first.. to get the complete story... but cut a long story semi-short... some how I got hooked on MSG3 and completed it..

Hence to stay on topic.. BC is important... consoles comes and consoles go... but good classic games are just that.. Classics.. like movies, musics and books...

The fact is that now that 360 library has increased in size, BC is no longer a selling point to early adopters. They have plenty of NEW titles that they should be purchasing and playing.

What would those be? Unfortunately I can't find evidence of these 'plenty of new titles' anywhere, in EB, GameStop, Target or online. I have found a single remotely decent looking title in the last month(TR:L). I picked up Chronicles of Riddick today(finally got around to it) precisely because there was NOTHING remotely decent looking on the 360 that I haven't already owned. Of course- this doesn't work on the 360. I don't have the space to keep the monsterous black box kicking around- between the 360, the Cube and the PS2 I just don't have the room. What I do have is a large library of XBox titles that I still play regularly- given that there is such a pitiful library for the 360 ATM. If it comes down to it, I'll probably end up ditching the 360 and keeping the original XBox(throw the 360 in the closet to collect dust- something it should do a lot better then work as a gaming platform ATM). As of now it really is the weakest platform I have ever owned this far into its life cycle(and I did have a 3DO). Oh well, lesson learned hoping that Riddick was BC- Sony or Nintendo can have my money from now until MS fixes their BC to tollerable levels or perhaps in a few months when the next singular decent looking title hits.

do you have a Live account?

there are several games that offer a lot of playability online not to mention XBLArcade games.

Currently Table Tennis is a blast to me online and I'm still playing CoD2 almost every day online. Finding matches at all hours day or night. Several people have told me they are hooked on UNO, and Oblivion has months of play time.

My friend is hooked, she got all but 2 achievements in one day...one of the achievements is WIN 40 games...hooked, she is at some 200+ wins. I have to admit that I love playing it, especially after using my own music, playing on live is always interesting, draw twos and draw fours bring out the, umm "best" in people :D. My wife really enjoys it as well, so we might go a couple rounds in partner mode on the separate 360s.

How do you listen to your own music in uno? I can stream it and listen to music but soon as the game starts it uses the standard uno music. I looked at the options and say nothing for a custom sound track.

For another eleven months IIRC.

there are several games that offer a lot of playability online not to mention XBLArcade games.

I keep all of my old systems- outside of Geometry Wars there isn't really anything I have seen on there that I don't already have that looks remotely interesting(my wife likes BJ2- although that is freely available on the PC).

Currently Table Tennis is a blast to me online and I'm still playing CoD2 almost every day online.

CoD2 became tedious for me very quickly, with all due respect Table Tennis is something I might check out when it is a XBLA title for $1.00 or so. If the game were on any other system if would have been $20, I don't mind spending the money if I thought anyone in the house would play it for more then a few hours, but I got suckered into buying FN:R3 and that was good for about six hours(tried to take my time too).

Several people have told me they are hooked on UNO, and Oblivion has months of play time.

Uno is freely available in tons of places, not knocking the game but outside of the novelty why play it on the 360 instead of on the PC where it has been for ohh, twenty years or so? Or you could do something really far out- play it with cards ;)

Oblivion- 910 out of 1000 and it seems I broke the thieves guild storyline(supposed to steal a ring back- the lady I'm supposed to find out where it is has been dead for a long time, the ring won't appear where it belongs until I talk to her). Currently my character is level 44, 101% reflect damage, 106 points absorb magika- oh yeah, that's my third play through the game. If it wasn't for Oblivion I likely would have gotten rid of the 360 altogether. At least I have seen that some great games CAN be done on the system.

http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?pp=0&GamerTag=BenSkywaIker

That covers the games I have. I have never been into sports games(outside of racing)- what don't I have that is any good?

I'm just going to comment here that c. $400 to play Live games seems a bit steep. I'm sure most XB360 owners were wanting proper XB360 console games and if there aren't many (can't comment) it's far from ideal to point to Live! as a source of games.

No kidding, I could just hang out at the Elk's club if I wanted to play UNO. :D

I don't think that was the point of the comment, but merely to use Live Arcade games to fill in the gaps.

I understand what you are saying Dave, but I have a rather large library of XBox games that would fill in the gaps in a vastly superior way.

Add Links 2004 to that list. With the 360 version cancelled by Take Two, the only golf games available are Tiger Woods.
