I'm amazed that so much of the media seems to be trying to exonerate Zidane for his assault.

I mean it's not exactly unheard of for insults to be thrown on the pitch. It is, on the other hand, much less common for players to physically assault each other off the ball. Whatever Materazzi might have said, Zidane is more in the wrong. Simple as that.

He's embarrassed himself, set a poor example to young fans and may well have lost the World Cup for his team. Why defend him?

Cause some people don't know how to lose, it's just as simple as that.

Gut wrenching to see them leave the tournament the way they did.

Even with 10 against 11 they played way better than Portugal, - and then to see Lampard and Gerrard of all people to not score on their penalties :(
