World Cup 2006

BTW, do you guys think Italy fooled us all with their "lame" playing until yesterday? I could kinda imagine that. Or was it just a sudden motivation boost?

It was probably a late pizza capricciosa boost.

:)

Italy is a strange team, they can beat brazil and at the sime time they can lose with the most silly teams on the planet, almost always been this way.

What changed from qualification stage imo is trust in their strength, Lippi played a great role there giving them motivation and built the basis for making a group where players respect each other and don't protest too much if gets substituted.

Our luck in this World Cup is the fact that our defense dep. is really strong, Buffon (goalie), Cannavaro (he's making a really INCREDIBLE world cup), Materazzi, Nesta played really well since day 0.

I really hate and dislike Francesco Totti, he is a truly talented player, but his talent is also on par with his sillyness, he's a diver, he's stupid.. and he's playing crap.. i'd substitute him if i were Lippi, but on the other hand i think Lippi keeps him most of the time because he knows well that Totti can change the way a match goes if he gets his shit right....

It's not really like that, it's that we always play better against stronger teams. So it's no really a surprize. Don't ask me why tho, it might just be a matter of motivations.

I think the "problem" is that they have the "do just enough" mentality which i also have. When they need to go through, they do what they can to go through and not much more. Obviously sometimes it takes a lot more to get through so they step up their game, like they have showed with big teams like Germany and others in the past.
Add to that the Italian mood swinging and crazy personalities, and it's all just a bit erratic...
This is true for many other aspects of Italian life, and not only for Italians! :D

Amazing to see Italy playing committed attacking football considering the defensive dross they often come up with. Credit to them for playing well. The rest of the knockout stages have been a real disappointment quality-wise so I'm pleased to see at least one good game.

Hopefully the Italians will adopt a similarly positive attitude in the Final.

It has to be said that more sensible refereeing has made all the difference since the Quarter-final stages onwards. One downside is that divers are still getting away with it but unfortunately going down after the slightest of touches is so ingrained in some players that they do it without thinking. After the plethora of yellow cards earlier in the tournament, the referees have been told to be more lenient on divers which is good for the spectacle of the game, if not the spirit. I'm hoping that after the World Cup a real crackdown on 'simulation' will begin although I'm not hopeful. Such a crackdown would be more easily achievable in a League context as it is less important if a few games are ruined by divers being penalised in a League match than a Cup match. Players would soon learn to stop diving if they knew bookings and suspensions were to follow.

A good, clean attacking game tonight please France and Portugal!

You seriously think Klinsmann will (be allowed to ) stay? Me not.

Why not? Isn't he a hero? Noone expected Germany to get this far in the first place! And that is even taking into account that the host always tends to make it beyond the group-phase.

Am I wrong?

They ALWAYS expect Germany to win in Germany, y'know... ;)

Though in this case, he has some bonus because indeed noone expected them to get this far.

I don't think the problem is him being allowed to stay. Most important DFB officials like Zwanziger, M-V and most importantly (since his word is gospel ;)) the Kaiser all stated publically they want Klinsmann to remain in office, its Klinsmann himself who doesn't know yet wether he wants to stay.

But even if he decides against it, he laid some good foundations and introduced many young players with loads of potential into the team (a result of the much improved youth and talent advancement of the Bundesliga clubs in recent years). So his successor would have a good starting point...

And I guess that's why the stadium gave him a standing ovation to thank him at the end of the match ... ;)

I asked that myself too...especially the first half of the Italians was nothing short of amazing. Kudos (especially) to Lippi.

I think that if he's gurantueed that Loew will get the job, thus his work is continued, he'll definitely leave. If Loew can't be his successor, he'll stay until Euro 2008.

I'm very sorry Germany it's not in the finals... I disliked the Italian football because they were defending all the time and when they had a miraculous moment voilá, goal.

But in this semi-final Italy were the better team by a wide margin, they had more possession, more attacks, more shots at goal and more goals too.:D

It was a good game between France and Portugal and let's hope France will win the wc, and I have 2 reasons:
1 - My wife is French;
2 - I had bet as France will win the wc.

OMG!!!!! After Brazil leave WC my only hopes were Portugal!!!!!! French is killing spree!!

I think Italy takes that!!

It was a pitty, my country (BRAZIL) doesnt show the spetacular football........they pratically doesnt play against france and become a client.......

The whole country wants to "kill" the brazilian coach, Parreira is the stupid one!!! He gets to disarm the best soccer players in the world with his Magic Quarter

The quarter is magic, im sure, it got down 4 of the best players......OMG!!!

I hope France will win the world cup. It would be a great way for Zizou to finish his career.

are you living in an alternate universe? we attacked all the time, we ruled the first half, we deserved to win.
