I still dont understand why anyone who has a sound system or tv uses sound cards for gaming when you can just use hdmi audio. Its typically hassle free with no driver headaches at all.

I can see using one for audio recording or streamcasting.

I don't understand why sound systems are obsoleted every other year because there is a new hdmi version. Also 5.1 is a minefield full of various consumer products and even headphones that do need dd live / dts interactive period.

I happen to like sound card -> analog cable -> stereo amp or sound card -> stereo mixer -> stereo amp.

My Denon 3808CI is 8 years old and there is nothing I currently need it to do that it doesn't do, so saying receivers become obsolete every other year isn't really true. I'll probably upgrade in the next year or two as I upgrade everything to support 4k and object-oriented surround formats (Dolby Atmos, DTS-X), but I think 8+ years is a reasonable service life.

Anyone else have this issue with the start menu tiles? I've seen it for a couple other tiles before. Thought I'd just screencap this time.

What's the complaint there? Is that the ENTIRE start menu, missing all of the frequently used apps and settings and power and blahblahblah?

I've noticed that my wife's live tiles do not function at all while her Surface is operating on battery, but they seem to function normally on my Lenovo Y460 on battery. Not really sure of the distinction there...

Half a tile

Oh, LOL. Is it always the same tile / app that is affected, or is it random? Haven't had that happen to me yet, at least not that I've noticed. :D

:p

Might be related to the app, dunno. I've only seen maybe 3 or 4 other tiles behave similarly, but only with the small setting. When I put the cursor over the empty bit, it treats it as though it were actually shifted as well, so it's not just the icon graphic being offset, it's the actual tile.

Ugh, I really really hope they eventually allow us the option of having the Windows 8.1 start menu back.

This whole vertical scrolling thing along with no option to "Show more tiles on the Start Screen" (option in Windows 8.1) makes using Windows 10 almost unbearable on a tablet in portrait mode. Customization of the start menu/screen is also rather pathetic compared to 8.1.

My Surface 3 ends up with a narrow column 3 tiles wide with empty space equal to 2 tiles on each side (4 empty tiles total) of that narrow column. Add vertical scrolling to that and it's absolutely horrific to use.

Apparently at one point during all the preview releases there was an option for a Windows 8.1 style start screen, but for some boneheaded reason, Microsoft took it out. Argh.

Also, another horrible new "feature" of the Edge browser. Similar to Chrome it now no longer has the option to block all pop-ups. This is absolutely horrible. If there was a middle finger emoticon I could use here, I'd be using it right now.

Oh and there's no ability to highlight a word or phrase then right click and "Search with Bing" (or other search provider) that exists in IE. At least on my surface there is no option for that. That's one of the most used features of IE that I loved ever since they introduced it and is such a time saver. It's such an incredibly useful timesaver. What the F. were they thinking when they removed that?

Argh, so frustrating using my tablet now. If I wanted reduced functionality and crappy interfaces, I'd have gotten an iPad or Android device.

Regards,
SB

But Microsoft makes worst interfaces now (even worse than most Linux DEs). I own both tablets (win x86 and Android ARM) and Android is infinitely much more functional as a tablet. It's much easier to use too.

Win 10 is an annoying, cumbersome, and buggy OS.

I don't understand how it got glowing review. Did tech journalist did not extensively use W8.1?

Off topic, but I would like to try a tablet that runs Firefox OS 2.5, or just a phone (a phone is more annoying because it's excessively personal)

It explicitly goes for reduced functionality (in some ways) but then you don't have to look for rooting the Android on day one, flash the OS with another version etc. (to get rid of crapware or tracking) and for Microsoft's UI, getting the rug pulled under from you and needing a Microsoft account and questionable privacy anyway.

spent hours mixing a song last night was gonna do the final mix this morning turn on PC, black screen, numlock keys dont work, do hard reset, same thing, go into bios, check harddisks are fine, reboot, finally after 3 reboots & windows repairs I get to the 'choose your OS' part.
after 40 minutes I'm finally in windows, now whats up?
I've had issues with windows 10 and slow startups since I installed it (sometimes it takes 20 seconds to boot, i.e. what it should normally take, but normally its a couple of minutes) I've installed no new hardware in the last week
Im beginning to think my SSD, which even though has been in my machine for a couple of months, I've only started using with windows 10, is fucked (*).
How can I test if my SSD is 100% fine, its a crucial ct250mx(**) (as recommended by beyond3d users, I myself wanted the samsung :-|)
I've had a google for SSD checking software but cant seem to find anything I'm happy with, so what do ppl use? cheers

(*)Also occasionally while Im using win10 I will have the busy cursor for about a minute, sure I used to have this in win 8, but not as frequent or as long
(**) you go to crucial's website and this model doesnt exist, 12 models of SSD's but no ct250mx!

Anyone using Multi monitors with Windows 10? I'm using dual screens with my HD 7970 (Cat 15.20) and I can't reliably drag windows between the screens. Using the Windows Key + arrows works fine. But dragging a windowed applications between the screens results in the mouse not being able to make the transition. I have to then leave the app straddling both screens, move the mouse to the other screen and pull the rest of the app across. It's really annoying me.

thanks rikimaru I ran that and it didnt report anything so I assume all is well, btw that programs not high DPI ready
I wonder whats up, A bit of a PITA
