Assuming NDA expiration is midnight, midnight where?
actually it's louder: http://www.hkepc.com/hwdb/r430r480-5.htmgordon said:Edit: Actually just read the translated version and they say its quieter than the 6800 Ultra and current x800 XT PE coolers. Hope the Beyond3D review can look into this as well.
Would have helped to know if those noise figures were taken at idle.anaqer said:FWIW here are some more noise figures ...

20dB? That's pretty close to silent, or at least ambient room noise, AFAIK. I thought stock X800 HSFs weren't as quiet as VGA Silencer v.3s?anaqer said:FWIW here are some more noise figures ...

Not this time. He's probably just referring to buying a decibel meter from Maplin electronics.
If this is true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, an SPL meter isn't much use. Going all passive cooling is awkward (but possible), but selecting the quietest fan assisted components is OTOH straightforward, cheap, and should yield adequate results to be able to evaluate the contributions of the gfx-card.under normal running modes, both desktop and 3D, it certainly couldn't be heard over the CPU fan noise
I was under the impression that a difference of 6 dB is percieved as "twice as loud".Pete said:IIRC, a 3 dB difference is a doubling of noise. The 6800 HSFs are really 3x louder than the X800 HSFs?

Bah, you should just get an IR camera and take some snazzy pictures like this guy did. 8)DaveBaumann said:http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=27237&TabID=1&source=15&WorldID=&doy=2m12

I believe that's what he said too - no ranges below 40dB. (Though I may be overlooking something.)DaveBaumann said:There's 4 ranges - 40-70dB, 60-90dB, 80-110dB, 100-130dB
