mabye and mabye not . You may end up with a 400$ dead end high def player in the form of the ps3 if the next 2 years or so goes in hd-dvds favor However your reason has nothing to do with games and quite frankly you will miss out on new takes on games because of the lack of a hdd
And with X360 you are going to be stuck with a redudant media format for your high definition needs.
The new experiences the Xbox provided?

It will be very hard for sony to sell u a 300$ ps3 and then a 100$ hardrive when the x360 is 300$ , it will be harder for sony to sell a 400$ ps3 and a 100$ hardrive . d
Nice insider info. Lets all pull abitrary numbers from thin air.
Live will have a 100% tie in rate next gen . It comes free with the system . online play is at an additonal fee but live itself is free and thus downloadable content will be avalible to anyone with an internet connection .

That will be a much greater number of people than a hardrive sold as an add on . Even with your fictional 20% tie in rate ..
Microsoft themselves are aiming for a 50% XBL attach rate.
And I don't think you should be one calling other peoples figures fictional

Once again all add ons fail .
N64 rumble pack (damn, this was also widely supported, puts your whole theory down the shitter ;)).

I was in EB today and even UMD has around 30 movies released for it already.

Something to think about guys. While hardcores like us know more about videogames casuals will probably prefer blu-ray movies. People are demanding umds right now. And they will probably demand BD movies.

But I wish Sony could throw in that HDD. If they did gameover. But they probably won't.

Demanding ? Only some movies are selling well , many barely sell at all . Demanding is a bit strong .

Not to mentino that umds will have a larger attach rate than bluray movies as bluray movies will only benfit a small minority of ps3 owners for the next couple years

UMDs only benefit a small minority. 1.2 million in North America.

But every person with a PSP can take advantage. My guess is what maybe 1 out of 15 people who buy a PS3 will have a HD-TV. Those early adoptors with HD-TVs will not use the PS3 as movie player. They will buy a superior stand alone player. What person in thier right mind spends 3+ grand on a TV and 30 bucks a disc to play it on a substandard player. Just like any serious HT person never used the PS2 as a DVD player no serious HT person will use the PS3 as a movie player.

Yet every single person who owns a psp can use umds and get the full benfit of owning it .

Tell me what benfit would someone with a ntsc sd set get out of buying a bluray movie ? Which will most likely be more expensive .

Redudant ? Are you sure your using the correct word ? Dvds will contine to be the most popular format for the rest of the decade along with having the largest library of titles to enjoy . Not only that but hte price of the media will continue to drop .

As for high definition needs . What needs ? An over whelming amount of users on this planet do not have high def . Not only that but there is no high def media standard . Which means you can be stuck with a format with no new content coming out for it . Or worse a format that doesn't have the content you want for it .

Nice insider info. Lets all pull abitrary numbers from thin air.

So your going to tell me that sony is going to sell the ps3 for less than 300$ ? Your going to tell me that sony will sell thier hardrive for less than what they sold thier last hardrive for ?

I believe you should read more . Microsoft is suggesting a 50% attached rate for gold members of live . Silver is free and thus every single user will have live . Its the very menus u will use when your not in a game .

N64 rumble pack (damn, this was also widely supported, puts your whole theory down the shitter ).
Ah yes i believe all 7 games that took advantage of it .

Reading your posts and responses to me leads me to believe that your just trolling the forum .

At this point there is no reason to responed to your posts as when asked to provide back up on your numbers you shy away and completely ignore those comments .

i voted for blu-ray :)

IMHO, i don't see the arguement on "only a few people will take advantage of HD movies"...

won't it be the same for HD-games?

since they would be in similar resolution?

i personally prefer having that option open for me...

although a Hard drive would've be nice to be included as well :)

I can't believe you called me a troll. You troll the PS3 shockingly and even your moderating seems to support the 360 (and I'm not the only one whose noticed).

As for backing up my numbers? What number did you call me out on? I said that releasing a HDD (or any addon) at the start of a consoles life will increase attach rate. The reason is simple: its available from the start and will get greater exposure from retailers. If you can't even see that, you just don't want to.

Sony will release the PS3 for $300 (they've all but confirmed it). I still believe its a toss-up whether the HDD is released with it, but if it isn't, yup, I'm saying the 80GB+ HDD will retail for less than $100.

I believe you should read more . Microsoft is suggesting a 50% attached rate for gold members of live . Silver is free and thus every single user will have live . Its the very menus u will use when your not in a game .
Its an issue of how many users connect to LIVE.

Its redudant in the HD-Era. HD-sets are picking up steam, and every single one of those users will want to enjoy HD content.

I don't know if you are making a joke on the 64s library or not, but around 80% of N64 games seem to support it.....

Comparing a 5 dollar add on and a 100 dollar add on is a joke. You think people who spend 300 on the PS3 30 for a memory card 30 for second controller and 100 for 2 games plus tax will have the money left over for a 100 dollar add on with no content?

I chose HDD.

If a game has *ALOT* of HD-FMV then there's no doubt that a dual layered DVD would run into problems. But as INGAME graphics get better and better, the need for FMV will be gone. I look at a game such as Gears of War and see that it's INGAME graphics are infact better than MANY FMV's I've seen.

When it comes to GAMES, a HDD offers FAR more than Blueray.

*IF* some games next gen need more space, they can always simply use 2 DVD's ( I can remember playing FF games onthe PS1 with 4 and 5 CD's.

Or, a partial install to the HDD would also go a longway. Which is entierly desirable as it will only serve to increase preformance.

To be fair, coding rumble support into your game, and coding support for an HDD require completely different levels of support.

I think someone who lays down that type of money in the first place isn't going to skimp, yeah. But I also doubt it will be $100 too.

If the HDD isn't standard then it won't be used for caching. Anything else isn't that difficult.
