What's the actual scale (size) of the nextgen consoles...

Look at this picture:

The power socket now takes up most of that seperated area, much like the first comparison pic I posted, the other X360 images are from smaple renders.

To be honest we still can't be sure on any of this until the final consoles appear on shelves, the best we can go with is IGNs measurements as they are currently the most likely correct source.

Hi guys, I took a couple of measurements of a standard three prong power connector and a usb cable. My numbers might be slightly off as I tried to aproximate the extra space required around the cables to let them fit into the sockets. I also didn't try to correct for perspective, and assumed that the hole at the bottom of the xbox is aproximately the size of the 3 prong connector (this may not be correct, but it matches the USB/RJ-45 connector slot very nicely). With that said, it looks like IGN's numbers are probably correct:

if your measurements are correct, it's roughly 1.2 inches shorter then the old non slim version of the PS2, and about teh same height as the PS2.

The slim version of the PS2 is 230mm tall, which is roughly 9.055", so it's a bit taller than that. According to gamespot the old one is 11.9" tall, so the xbox360 should be almost exactly between the two based on that mockup and the IGN numbers.

Anyone notice that the way Microsoft shrunk XBOX 360 vs. XBOX1 is that they removed the internal power supply and replaced it with an external power brick?

That's true for the demo/beta unit. Tough to say if they will do that for the real one or not. It looks like power supply is supposed to be internal given molding of the case, but it's entirely possible that they are going to change it to be external. That's a very small case for everything they are packing in. (Even if they are using some form of liquid cooling).

Well i think it's a good idea. I prefer small bricks on the floor where i can hide them and smaller consoles, then huge consoles and no bricks...

No, it's a beta version of the console. That cord is a power cord used on alot of devices for temporary use.

Perhaps, but why would they bother powering a display unit that's obviously not really going to be displaying anything?

Why is it so important to have accurate measurements of the new consoles.
I mean you can already see their sizes relative to a human being.
Both of them are compact and sleek enough to fit in any room or entertainment centre.
It's only a matter of a few centimeters

I don't care which one is smaller, I just want to know their sizes what's wrong with that?, what can I say I like to know all the details.

LOL, I didn't notice the unit is absolutely empty Mr. Green You can see the led mechanism of the front
Yeah, the units displayed at E3 were all just mockups at this time (same thing for PS3 afaik).
Anyway one thing I would note that may be relevant to the comparisons is that PS3 controller is quite small - from what I can tell it's noticeably smaller then standard DS2 (the Playstation buttons seem to have been reduced to the size of those on PSP, which are ~1.5times smaller then DS2).

I didn't like the look of controller design on pictures, but after seeing in in actual size it looks much more appealing - though the real test will be holding it of course.

You know what kinda bugs me about PS3...

With that curdy top i won't be able to put DVD/Games cases on there!! I won't be able to put anything on there or it will fall off! :devilish:

I have a USB keyboard on top of mine.

Maybe they will support a BT keyboard?

Or just a regular wireless one which connects through a USB transmitter?

The sizes or shapes of the consoles don't bother me so much as the prospect of noise. I turn off the console when I'm not using it because of the fan and drive noise.

If the new XBL is predicated on people always having their console on and being online so people can message you or invite you to games, the X360 better be pretty quiet in operation.

Think of it this way, if you have a stack of devices, the PS3 will always be on top.
