What's the actual scale (size) of the nextgen consoles...

Okay, given that the images we're working with currently are renders anyway, does anyone have decent pics of both consoles from their unveilings?
Drop links here and we can use those to get accurate comparisons from the production boxes

IGN had a console comparison chart that included dimensions. Can't find it now, but if I recall correctly the 360 was 10.5" tall and the PS3 was 13" tall (when standing vertical, of course). I'll see if I can track it down.

Still can't find the link, but here are the dimensions according to IGN:

According to IGN:
Xbox360:10.25" wide x 2.5" high
PS3:13.5" wide x 3.25" high
Xbox 12" wide x 4" high

So the 360 is a good bit smaller, and the PS3 is actually larger than the original Xbox -- at least in one dimension.

The original image has a lot of space below the power socket which doesn't fit the design. It looks like it's been artificially stretched. The second attempts show the power socket more neatly positioned and I believe these are the true images. matching any port between platforms in size should produce the same results

it's amazing the lengths some people go to to try and put a system down and spread mis-information. why bother?

is it actually possible to hate an inanimate object so much? the number of people who despise the xbox or the GC or the ps2... why? i can understand only wanting one of the three, but hating the others? makes no sense to me...

Bizarre isn't it? People do the strangest things.

I just got to read the thread (I had the link when I saw the title and did not see it in the first couple posts and saw the outrageous pics so I paste it which, of course Rusty beat me with the specs).

All I can say about this thread is:

The original image is EXACTLY what you find at Xbox360.com Nobody altered the power cable socket.

It's coming straight from MS. Like someone mentioned it's a render anway so the socket was probably not proportional to the rest of the case for whatever reason.

It'll be funny to see what the press says when they realize that large size had nothing at all to do with Xbox success in Japan last generation. PS3 is bigger than the original Xbox and it will sell just fine in Japan.

I don't think these specs are right unless the xbox360 in the first image is totally wrong. I resized the xbox and PS3 given those specs and the 360 looks rather... Off. I have the image if anyone wants to host it. I currently don't have anything set up to host it with myself.

Ok, here you go:

Since you could trivially measure the size of the AV jacks on both console (since they're identical to PS2 and Xbox) you should be able to validate the images pretty easilly.

Assuming IGN's dimensions are correct, of course. Wonder when we'll get offical dimensions...probably not until a lot closer to launch.

I thought your pic was off so I was looking at it in Fireworks and it does show the Xbox360 25% shorter than the PS3 (or the PS3 being 30% taller, same difference). So the heights are right. So I thought the widths were off... and dang they were not.

The PS3 is a monster side by side... but who cares??? I don't. Not with that much power and developer support.

And I agree with what Johnny, we will see that the Japanese still buy it like crazy. Why? Because Sony has a lot better Japanese developer support and is a Japanese company.

Anyhow, I would not discredit the specs just because some renders do not line up right.

I haven't the slightest clue why you're calling x360 "industrial design", because it doesn't look even remotely industrial to me. Quite the opposite, it's typical modern electronic fashion design a la Apple. Nuttin "industrial" whatsoever about it. It's white plastic for frig's sake, now if it'd been chrome with square corner maybe I'd agreed...

Next I expect you to see you call the original box "graceful".

Apple has thier own or hires industrial designers to design their computer exteriors. ;)

It's odd though. The connectors are still all wrong compared to the PS3 (except the power connector, but I left that scaled the same way that it was in the other images). I'd feel a lot more comfortable seeing real images of both units just to make a general comparison.
