What's the actual scale (size) of the nextgen consoles...

Here's some real images. Not that they help much, but it does look like the 360 is a bit smaller. Hard to tell the width of the PS3 at that angle.

This pics source material is official screen graps and they have not been doctored, I've only scaled and cropped them.
If anything the PS3 plug is still slightly too large.
The powerplug is seen from a slightly different angle on each console so it's far from accurate but it gives an idea about the scale.

There's gotta be something screwy with that xbox image. Both the power connector and the rj-45 port still look slightly too small. If I just saw a picture of the rear of the xbox360 as shown by that picture I'd think it was smaller mid-tower PC.

There is no way the xbox360 can be slightly over 10" tall and for that image to be correct. Is the 360 image promotional material or something? Do we have any other pictures of the back of the 360?

Unless the gent holding the Xbox 360 is a giant and Kutaragi is a midget there is no way your pic is right. And we know the Xbox 360 is smaller (announced during the press conference) so the above seems unlikely.

Something to consider: IGN got their dimensions from SOMEONE. They did not just make them up. My guess they were from official media guides and/or NDA information from beforehand. And based on the pictures of people holding it there is no way the Xbox 360 is as large as you guys are depicting. Squaks pic shows a device with 2x the volume  The pictures definately do not show that; it is easier for me to believe the Xbox 360 is slightly smaller based on the pics than 2x the volum :?

Maybe the #s are wrong, but from the pics we know that the Xbox 360 is not some huge box like these scaled pics show.

Well, Ken Kutaragi (holding the PS3) is rather small, I mean even the PSP looked pretty big in pictures where he was holding it. I'm going with they're about the same size, with the Xbox360 possibly a little smaller. Judging by the length of the disc-loading slot on the PS3 it doesn't seem like it would be much, if any taller, than the PS2 when they're both in the vertical position.

It's odd though. The connectors are still all wrong compared to the PS3 (except the power connector, but I left that scaled the same way that it was in the other images). I'd feel a lot more comfortable seeing real images of both units just to make a general comparison.

There you go. I'm not sure if either of those pictures actually represent the rears of the consoles.

There are better PS3 pics available on ign and I have to say the controller looks better in the pics than the renders.

Thanks for clearing everything up for me.

I don't believe this thread rolled on for 3 pages, and is going into page 4. E3 is open to the public. People can see for themselves, then we'll return here.

This pic of Xbox 360 is not render, but the size of the power socket is about the same.

Lets put it this way guys:

The Xbox 360 controller is a good bit wider than the 360 console (maybe 2x).

If that would be the case, your "to scale" photoshops would make the PS3 1/3 of the width of the controller. We can tell that is not true... just look at the PS3 controller for comparison. It would be VERY small. So if the console is as small as some of you keep suggesting then you have a midget controller on hand.

This pic illustrates how small KK is. You can see it when he walks out from the right side of the screen at the presser. He's a small guy, and the PS3 looks massive in his hands. I don't know why anyone's scaling the power plug on the back of the 360, those pics are from MS themselves. I doubt they'd scale it down on their own. So the modified pic is inaccurate, the 360 is bigger than that. But the PS3 image also looks a bit off in some of them since the power plug is at an off angle.

IMO, IGN's numbers are way off. I don't see the PS3 being bigger than the Xbox. The slot drive doesn't look that big in proportion to the front of the device when compared to the PS3. Matter of fact, I'm thinking the PS3 is only slightly bigger in each direction than the PS2, and possibly shorter due to the vertical stand on the PS2. :? That's a hunch though, I can't muster proper comparison shots. The 360 shouldn't be much bigger than either of them either.

Anyone got pics of the 360 next to the Xbox again? There was a noticeable difference in size there IIRC. But compared to the PS3, I'm starting to think now that the PS3 might actually be slighthly shorter (due to 360 HDD) and maybe .5" thinner??? Flat-chested women would do well to have KK palm their breasts to create the illusion of size. He's like a friggin smurf. I said it before, but holding the PS3, he looks like Atlas trying to military press an aircraft carrier or something. That thing just totally dwarfs him. :? I'd like to hear from people who saw the systems at E3. Of better yet, get some official info from the companies themselves. I assume the reason they haven't provided dimensions yet is b/c the hardware designs are still subject to change. PEACE.

There is no way that pic is right.

I just got done scaling the controllers from the pictures. We know for a fact the X360 controller is smaller than the Xbox controller.

But looking at the pic of the man with the controller, if you use your guys pictures, the PS3 controller could easily fit in a single open hand with room to spare. To compare, I have the Pelican PS2 controller and it is small--and this thing would be even smaller. The scary part would be that the buttons would be insanely small and all very close (if you look at the Pelican the buttons/dpad are at the edge whereas the PS3 handle bars make up a good bit of extra width outside the buttons comparatively).

But if you look at Ken the controller is not going to be decent size, not some micro size controller.

Btw, Ken might be small, but the PS3 looks decent size even compared to the gent next to him. Looking at the pic it definately looks like at the widest part it could be 3.25".

Oh well, it will be fun to revisist this thread when we get official sizes or confirmation from E3 visitors.

Anyone else notice that this isn't even a 3 prong connector on the Xbox? That, to me, would make it a little difficult to compare the sizes on the real-life units to the mockups, although I will say it does look like the socket takes up a larger area than is viewable in the first pics.

That's a display unit that obviously doesn't have the actual power connector in the area designated for it. It looks like they've put a security cable attachment where the power plug would usually be.

No, it's a beta version of the console. That cord is a power cord used on alot of devices for temporary use.
