Just wanted to get a feel for what the most common resolutions are on gaming LCD's (or TV's) that people actually buy.

Please post!

CRT, so for instance I play doom 3 at 640x480, quake 3 and doom 800x600, CS and mohaa 1024x768, quake 1 and Mafia at 1200x900 :p

hm.. my notebook has 1400x1050.. :D

I knew I would miss something! But I couldn't go over 10 options anyway :D

That's kinda why I started the poll. Was wondering what percentage of people were "locked-in" to a particular gaming resolution since it would affect the useful life of graphics hardware by removing the flexibility of dropping to a lower resolution.

Man it looks like I'm the only one with the 1440x900 widescreen. So far it's worked extrememly well in all the games I've played. Of course, I don't play a lot of games anymore, I'm usually on my laptop, which has a 1960x1200 screen and a 64meg GeforceMX.

I'm still using a hefty CRT, running my desktop at 1600x1200. For gaming I'm limited to 1024x768 or below for anything released in the last two years. When I do upgrade to a LCD, I would definately go for a panel with a 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratio and a minimum resolution of 1680x1050 or 1440x900 for a laptop.

i've got a pair of 21" CRTs. one is a hitachi and maxes out at 1600*1200, the other is an NEC and takes input up to 2560*1600. i don't have the real specs on the NEC, but i'm guessing it doesn't really support more than 1600*1200, because it's blur-o-vision beyond that. i usualy game and run my desktop at 1280*960 (per screen).

1360x768 (hdtv resolution)
Huh? "HDTV", or rather 720P, is 1280*720 pixels natively...

My screen is 1280*1024, but I want a Dell 2407 to play around with instead... :( Unfortunately my gfxcard isn't enough to drive such a monitor at native res in most games today, so I'd have to switch out almost my entire PC. Gah! No money for that.

I've seen far more TV's being marketed as HDTV with a resolution of 1360x768 than those using 720P. I have no idea why this is so, but from my experience its actually pretty hard to find a TV with a resolution of 1280x720, but its very easy ti find a 1360x768.

And people wonder why everyone is confused with this HD stuff.

If I actually owned any of those games, I could do this too on my 2407 with 1920*1200.
I'm actually very happy with the image quality at lower resolutions, even compared to my previous 1280*1024 native 19" CRT.

Err, edit: apparently I can't actually run at 640*480, windows/drivers are only letting me drop to 800*600 min res

32" TV, 1366x768, using 1360x768 though.

But you can use any resolution below, why the "locked-in" comment? Or did you mean the bluriness which occurs with non-native res? It's not as bad with a TV as it is with a monitor.

Why would it be any different for a TV? The panel is just larger :)

No idea, maybe some better upscaling algorithms? Dedicated chip? Whatever it is, it definitely looks better with low-res than a PC LCD monitor of comparable size.

Many HDTV's have 1360x768 as a native resolution for Pc users (mine does 1:1 mapping with DVI VGA and HDMI, very good! some only do the same resolution with VGA and get distortion with DVI or HDMI)... But it runs 720p as good as 1360x768, it has to.

the other day i found a DCC bug and my drivers reported my hdtv had a maximum resolution of 1920x1080, i try it, it worked lol but it was all blurred. But i guess all of them have to do 1920x1080 for 1080i
