Yesterday I was approached by a strange man

"are you the guardian of the sacred terrabyte ?"

"ahh, are you on a pilgrimage to observe the majesty"

"Er no"

"A consoletard come to tempt me from the path of righeousness with your proprietry hardware
evilness, well I shall never abandon gods own gaming machine prepare to die" I shouted

"no wait I have siver discs of illusive goodness to sell, here look"

he handed me :

nolf
midtown madness
morrowind
max payne
c&c red alert
swat 3
gangsters
dune 2000
kingpin
gta 3

"not so illusive as i have most of those"

"but all i want is 15 of your english pounds" he begged

So Im now a happy bunny :D

Kingpin, true ghetto athmosphere. I need to buy that game and finish it as all I did was play the demo. Gotta love those stereotype characters.

Finally got all the cars in Freeride Extreme in Mafia. Two missions were impossible without reducing the framerate to 5 FPS with Fraps: first is the mission where you drive a sportscar and bombs explode behind you. You need to reach and maintain a certain speed or the car will be destroyed. Bombs go off too soon when the framerate is high.

Second is the mission where you have to drive a slow car over the bridge where the Zeppeliner hovers. The Zeppeliner will carpetbomb the bridge and your car stalls if you go over 60 kph. Bombs fall too fast when the framerate is high.

Additionally, there's a mission where you have to follow an invisible guy (cloaked like in the Predator films). He stops at a certain point if you have done the Kill Speedy Gonzales mission and killed Speedy on the big red bridge, but you can just start Freeride Extreme again and do just the follow invisible guy mission. All other cars have been unlocked, you just won't have access to the Bolt-Thrower in Freeride Extreme with all the other cars.

GRID.

I think I'm going to have to buy my first steering wheel. It's really fun, a good driving model, with lots of variation of cars and tracks that can be made easier with the driver aids and difficulty levels for the non-hardcore. One-off races, online, career mode where you start as a jobbing driver and work your way up to owning and running your own team and driving your own cars.

Looks beautiful at 1920x1080 and runs buttery smooth.

a forcefeeback steering wheel is the best money ive spent pc wise
if you can get a logitec g25

or failing that a logitech momo

the FERRARI F430 Force Feedback Racing Wheel looks good (never seen one for sale though)

Thanks for the recommendations, but I'm probably too cheap for anything quite that nice just for the one game!

You just can't control spins and drifts properly without a wheel, let alone a nice sweep from outside a corner, through to the apex and then back out again. Like all driving games, the better the driving model, the more you miss having a wheel.

Man, that reminds me of the Microsoft Force Feedback wheel we once had. Really great wheel that was. Sadly it was a 15-pin analog wheel. Microsoft later released a USB version. If I had that one, it would probably still work now. Should have just bought it then.

I've got one of those upstairs, wonder if it will work with Vista... might give it a whirl with CM: Dirt.

Ive got one of them as well and it still works allthough the rubber is peeling off and the spring on one of the pedals broke (had to suspend it from my desk with a g-clamp and some elastic) - having said that its a great wheel
@ pjb works in xp not sure about vista

@Bzb how about a Logitech Formula Force EX £40

ps: trust me on this after buying a wheel you wont just have one game you'll buy more
recommended is ea sports f1 99-02 if you hunt round you can get every season from 1994 onwards including 2009 plus some others like 1975
plus tons of mods

Kingpin has great graphics already (and run at 60fps on a voodoo2!)

It was an impressive and solid game when it came out, its sad it didnt got more attention, it has one of the best flamer gun effects ever done in a game, it even surpasses the ones found in very recent games imo.

nah, havn't got round to it yet mate. I'll report back when I have though.

Just tried it in Vista and allowed the OS to auto install drivers. It seems to work ok with CM:Dirt. I was never any good with wheels though so I still prefer the pad.

The game didn't detect it as the MS wheel but just as a generic one. After mapping the controls though it worked fine. Feedback and all.

Well I got my steering wheel. It's quite nice, I can't really complain except for the slightly plasticy pedals, and it cost me less than half price, even with postage. However, I probably wouldn't have bothered if I'd seen the complaints on the Codemasters forums about their wheel support. I think the best description was "driving on soap", and that pretty much describes it. Vibration and wobbly in a straight line, too much tendency for the back to snap away under breaking or acceleration unless it's in a perfect straight line, oversteer into corners that gets worse as you slow down, understeer out of corners, etc. I've spent several hours messing with the settings and trying other recommendations, and it's seems impossible to get really fixed.

It's just not like driving a car unless you drive with all the nuts loosened on the steering wheel, steering rack, and wheels. It's actually less fun to drive with a wheel, and you do worse than with the keyboard.

I'll give it some more time, but at this rate I might be looking for some other game that actually implements a steering wheel properly.
