Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

To me, Nathan's walking is kinda limpy and slow (in between levels).

Is that with or without the fast movement reward? I'm at the fortress now (beautiful!) and I don't know exactly when I got it.

Without the reward.

The game is impressive nonetheless. But it's clear that ND spent a lot of time on the technology platform. Uncharted 2 should be incredible if they devote equal attention to the gameplay (and story).

If 1up had some culture ,they'd call it the 'Piranesi' level

I see what you mean...

But i want this generation's "real ICO" from Team Ico...

:)

Me too !

I'm curious, what other game(s) have a better sticky cover system with aim-only crosshair?

Well I was mainly thinking Gears. In Gears the character pretty much always does what I wanted it to do and moving from cover to cover is very smooth, although the learning curve is little steeper than in Uncharted. In general the system works well in Uncharted also, but it just isn't as smooth, for example some colums don't let you move sideways while in cover and then some other similar looking column does let you do it. The whole system just doesn't feel as tight and precise... It still does it job better than ok though.

I also hear lot's of good things about the cover system in Rainbow Six vegas, but I haven't tried it yet.

I felt the opposit.IMO ,uncharted system works better,+ it's seemless with the platform mechanics. The environments are much more organic in uncharted. In gears ,everything seems to be modeled on strict mesuring on the cover system.

I finally got Uncharted and played about 6 hours of it already.

And like other people have said, it's really really good.

I've already hit the plot twist toward the end-- and I am really digging it. The story definitely gets more interesting toward the end. And you care about the characters more toward the end as well. The writing is quite good.

The jeep chase sequence was amazing! I usually don't like those kinds or railed shooting sequences. But this one was so well put together it was quite impressive.

I'm playing through Uncharted right now with a friend on Normal mode, then I figure I'll go back and play through the harder difficulty levels on my own. We just reached the Jeep sequence, so next time he comes over to my place we'll probably each have to play it once, even if the first player gets past it.

A couple nephews came over last night and fired up Uncharted (I was still playing AC and CoD4 while the kids were still playing R&C) and it looked really good so I started it when they left on hard. Very fun so far and very tombraider-esque but I'm only 40 minutes into it or less.

I was shocked by the lack of gunfight in the beginning. It's mostly ruin watching and platforming. Quite a slow start, but the story's good and the visuals great, such that there's incentive to watch more (we were watching PS3 owner play).

This pleasantly surprised me :D Though pretty soon I noticed interesting bits of 'cover' in those environments that hinted at something in the near future. But not before a very pleasant 'surprise' (level 3 or so) ... I loved that bit. The biggest disappointment for me so far has been that each time my wife walked in on me was during gunfight levels, where I'm sure she'd have liked the platforming sections. Being a plant expert though she complains the plants are 'all wrong' ... :p

79% through now with drake's fortune. I have to say that I'm rather disappointed, solid 8+ game but not really that great. Story is very predictable, characters are blah and the game itself gets repetitive very very fast. Puzzles are so easy that I wouldn't call them puzzles anymore. I guess I will trade this one as soon as I'm finished, not going to bother playing through again. On the positive side the graphics are amazing at times, but graphics alone don't make a good game.

I guess the reviews got this one right, there is just something missing and the end result is average from the fun/immersion/replay factor.

The reviews got it right? Yeah I'd say they did.

Where exactly is 79% ?

I can't figure out what you mean. What pleasant surprise??!

...the game itself gets repetitive very very fast.
Can I ask what games in your opinion aren't repetitive? Uncharted breaks up the shooting with different gameplay. This contrasts strongly with the likes of Halo and GeOW which are the same thing ad infinitum. Seems to me almost every titles out there is the same gameplay throughout, and for longer games that means even more repetition. So I'd like to know what your comparison is.

I can't speak for the previous poster, but I played Halo3 and Gears co-op with friends online so it was a blast all the way through. Playing those games single player would probably get repetitive though, but theres no need to do that when there are legions of live players out there to co-op with. After your done with the single player campaigns on those, you can then take those games online which extends their re-playability somewhat.

I admit I didn't really check the menu options on Uncharted, but I don't think it supports co-op or online play. I could be wrong on that, but thats what I recall. That means the single player game has to stand on its own merit. The problem there is that most run&gun type games, when they are single player only, will suffer from repetition. Most games get around that nowadays by offering co-op play or online support.

I don't consider those games repetitive any more or less than any other games. My point is that all games are repetitive. Whether you're playing solo campaign or online, every game consist of running around shooting people. There's not much variation (though Forge shakes things up a little). Every platformer from Mario to RnC is jumping on platforms ad infinitum. Every shooter is progeressing through different maps shooting slight variations in monsters. Every footy game is 'pass the ball around until you can kick it in the back of the net'. Every racer is 'go as fast as you can to overtake the other cars until you reach the end'. To Uncharted's credit, it's not 'duck and shoot and run and shoot' over and over, but changes from shooting to climbing and jumping which is more variety than most! Thus if manux found it repetitive, how does that compare to other games that have less variation in gameplay?
