Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

Oh and as far as the EGm scores...they were expecting difficult puzzles like in Soul Reaver, just because Amy Henning was working on the game (they said so in their 1up show)_
How can you mark something down based on who worked on the game

Madness.

I don't recall them mentioning much about the puzzle elements of the game, so they shouldn't have expected their minds to start aching.

I'm just saying what 1up's main discussion was about in the 1up show. They wouldn't stop talking about how they loved the puzzles in Soul Reaver, and were expecting the same from Uncharted because of Amy. If so...(one of EGM's low points was "lame puzzles", then they misunderstand the very clear differences between Uncharted and Soul Reaver.

Really what Eurogamer says in their article about the graphics is enough.

I'm not arguing that it isn't a fantastic or technically impressive game, graphically. I think most reviewers grade heavily on art and style more heavily than the technology underneath. That's why Uncharted might get a 9, and another game with less technology might score higher. It's just a matter of preference for the reviewer. If someone gave Uncharted a 7, I'd be pretty skeptical, but a 9 does not fall outside reason.

EDIT: I ordered Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted together from Amazon for 68 pound .... together with delivery that comes to 75 pound, which is currently 105.6 euro, so that's 52,30 per game.
Maybe you should also have a look at renchi.com. R&C - 45€ including shipment !

A 9 for graphics is good, don't see what the fuss is about that pointage. A 10 is far to much for the graphics in Uncharted IMO.

The only reason IGN marked it down was because of a bit of tearing, and some texture pop-in. It has nothing to do with artstyle, the artstyle amazes them.

9 may even be too much for Uncharted but when you consider all the 9s and 10s freely given to other games, it still looks unfair.

I think people make way too much of review scores, arguing over a .3 etc. The game looks great. They said it looks great and it received a high score. Nothin' to worry about here.

If it didn't have those issues, are you sure they would have given it a 10? There's no way of knowing that. Maybe they would have given it a 9.5 or a 9.6. This argument about the scores is totally worthless. They gave it a very high score, which is totally subjective. Reviewing is not and cannot be a science.

Well, we are here to nitpick gfx so it's only logical we do the same for gfx scores.
I'd agree however from gaming POV, it's mostly irrelevant.

I don't know Scotty boy! You just said that it might be because of the art work, when they seem very congratulatory in their review about it.

I just think you PS3 owners need to relax and enjoy a great game when you can get your hands on it. I don't think a 9 or 10 would make any difference in sales, so just enjoy while the rest of us, that don't own PS3s, are jealous.

Oh come on. Don't make us look insecure when people question a score for graphics. It's true that standards have changed - but it's just in relation to other recent reviews. I mean Crysis got a 10 for graphics - but COD4? At 600p?

It's alright to question, and you pointed towards a possible answer - art style, and I said that that probably wasn't the reason why.

Since we like to look at the whole here at B3d, we think Uncharted has that whole, and it's quite understandable, whether you own a ps3 or not - to question a 9/10 - especially when one reviewer at the cynical Eurogamer (they gave Gears 8/10) said that Naughty Dog have raised the bar in console graphics.

I don't think anybody is insecure. I'd just like this thread to get back to discussing the game, because I can't play it :)

Reviews aren't worth discussing. One man's 8 is another man's 9. Plus, you have different people reviewing different games on different platforms for the same rag, so you won't find consistency between scores. If they gave Uncharted a 6 or 7, then maybe it would be a worthwhile discussion, but not really. In that case, we could just say the reviewer is a dum dum and be done with it.
