Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

Is the intro cut scene in the demo a movie then? The console doesnt seem to need it to stream any data in the backround, becuase it is skipable.

Yes. But that's because the game loads fast enough from HDD anyway.

I just played through the demo, and I liked it. The wet shirt wrinkling looks great and so does the lighting and shadows. The explosions look rather weak though, but I quess I have to live with that.

The gameplay and controls were pretty solid too and actually better than what I was expecting from seeing all the videos. The character moves little slow and his jump is a bit weak, but those didn't bother me too much and I'm definately buying this one.

The explosions with a fireball or "micro nuke" looks alright, and is done with particles. Although they cause some slowdown it gives a nice touch, aswell as some fires.

3 HD resolution gameplay videos at ruliweb really show that the game looks amazing :

Again, none of this is at all special. But this is more apt for the Uncharted thread...

Sure but it is already doing sophisticated AI, DTS sound and breathtaking visuals. A high quality physics system cannot be a bad or normal thing in this context. My original statement mentioned that the extra power can be used in these areas as Uncharted has demonstrated (All at the same time even).

I'll have to confirm when I get home. Pretty sure it was DD5.1.

DTS 5.1 is supported according to people who tried the demo. Let me know what you find. I was told Skate is also DTS.

Yes, we all know PS3 games use Cell for audio while the 360 uses its CPU. There's no dedicated hardware on either. I don't see this as anywhere close to something saying "PS3 has better audio", unless we're of the mindset that anything on Cell is automatically superior (which is an argument that seems to be rearing its head here)

The last time I checked, 7.1 vs 5.1 is rather trivial from a performance perspective. The Audigy wasn't a computational beast, specialized or not.

That doesn't mean 7.1 is that much harder to do than 5.1 though, and I don't see anything to suggest it is. But where as the 360's design was limited to a signal digital optical output, the PS3 was built to support mutichanel PCM output though HDMI. I highly doubt calculating two more channels in PCM mode is any more of a workload than dynamically compressing 5.1 into Dobly Digtal to support srround sound though optical, quite likely less.

Ok... but like I said, all these things add up.

Oui. I'm quite optimistic, because of 1up's bitterness to the ps3...and I'm NOT getting this from reading reviews, I'm getting it from their podcast and their show (eg. Shane got ripped to shreds for giving a 9/10 to HS)...I think they bitterly gave Uncharted 8.5/10 which is good for them, so I'm optimistic. IGN hits later btw

Uh...points you to AC reviews.

Exactly.

Here's a game brimming with originality, and it's getting slammed in multiple reviews for being too repetitive. How in the world you can give COD4 a 9.5, and then slam AC for being repetetive is beyond me...one is doing things that have never been done in a game before, and another is doing iteration #82739 of the same game mechanics...

Indeed...it's if you like what's being repeated. I'm worried the platforming won't be as satisfying as in the POP's...as in not challenging enough.

Though there seems to be something hitting reviewers were a game with 100% repetition is better than 9 different sections that are then repeated.
