Uncharted : Drake's Fortune*

Yes we need to wait to 22 november  Then they wil release the demo on the European PSN stores. There will be no patch or any kind of workaround.

Just downloaded the "new" version from the US store, it works on my PAL PS3.

It´s pretty incredible, enjoy :)

You can do that in the demo. Melee someone from behind and Nathan will jump on their back and snap their neck.

There's actually a whole slew of melee moves you can pull off. They seem to depend on where you are, where the enemy is, whether you're moving, what direction you're moving, and whether you're jumping. Some of them are quite neat!

Hey deepbrown, I think this is for your 5-year-old:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/11/09/uncharted-drake’s-fortune-demo-back-on-the-world-map/

We’re really sorry about what happened and didn’t anticipate this at all. We just didn’t know people from other territories could connect to the US PLAYSTATION Network Store and download demos
Surely Sony is aware of this, and surely would have expected it? Surely also there's ND devs who visit forums or download from other regions? Kudos to the quick fix, but to not expect international interest is pretty naive!

Damn Naghty Dog...

They just ruined my Call of Duty 4 experience.

The Demo is short but it looks way above everything else on consoles right now. Textures are top ace and the lightning and shadows looks really good (Not like the pixelate shadows on COD4/Killzone2(Video)).

The thing that amazed me the most was the sound. Soundtrack is good so far, but the soundmix with the enviroment is just outstanding on my 5.1 system.

Animations are great. I was expecting more plattforming/puzzles, but the demo is mostly about gunshooting and hiding.

I hope the story is good and well written. Iam really looking forward to explore more of that amazingly beutiful island Naughty Dog created.

You serious? I laughed when I clicked through to your picture..if you've a problem with that, you must have a problem with 99% of games out there, not least when they don't look as good as this one.

From what I've seen of the videos, I think extending the game a 'pretty good' here and a 'well done' there on the visual side might be a little too restrained..but I won't be able to directly judge for myself until Sony fixes the region bug :| Hurry up please!

It looks so good on these pictures and videos, but when I go to play the game, it looks horrible. I've been hearing so much about Xbox 360's photomode adding AA into it, and they use touched up screens to present it, but I haven't seen Sony actually doing it. So I'm asking if my PS3 is defective. This is something I notice, and it has bad AA. I played Uncharted and I think it has stepping as bad as halo. I honestly don't know. Warhawk doesn't look that bad. Neither Resistance. This is the first title for the Ps3 that is really bad. And its been hidden and never touched.

You think I'm zooming in, but I see it EVERYWHERE, if I take an offscreen picture and host it on X site it will be compressed and the original 3000x2000 jpeg gets compressed. So I took a pic of it closed up. But you can see that really bothers me when the pictures and video SHOWN HERE are completely jaggie free, infact, I've only seen one or two pictures with stepping. So I start blaming the hardware. So thanks for pointing out that its the software. This kind of stepping does not bother me while in gameplay. But this normally gets accepted and there are normal complaints about stepping on Xbox 360 titles and I haven't seen anyone point it out. I apologize for pointing out the obvious.

I think something might be wrong dude...

Played the demo today. The visuals are amazing.

Denko what kind of TV do you have? I have a SDTV and I ve noticed that generally my TV does alot of flickering. Not necessarilly in Uncarted. But everywhere. Even in xmb/game menus, the letters flicker up a lot. Wherever there are small bright details in visuals in any game the image gives the impression that there is aliasing and flickering when it is actually my TV.

I think it is because the next gen consoles are aimed for HDTVs. The developers have these displays in mind first. My TV simply cant do well small crisp details.

I have now played the demo. There are definitely some wow moments.

Things I noticed and enjoyed:

+You can pause the movies - helpful when somebody rang me during it (damn them!)
+The best layering of textures I've seen. The rocks are wet when they need to bet wet, and on some walls, you have damp moss, very wet moss etc. Looks godly.
+Shadows and lighting...just amazing. No jaggy shadows! incredible.

+Love all his animations when you're not doing anything...getting out his gun when he hears a sound, patting himself down, crouching down, putting his arms on his hips (lol) And in general...by being responsive and having smooth animation...certainly the best animation to date.

+Shooting a toucan was fun
+Walking through deep water, felt like walking through deep water
+Wet drake...and more importantly, partially wet drake
+Crossing the log wasn't as hard as some people said - I didn't fall over once, sixaxis was a nice touch
+Oh and getting him right to the edge and watching him trying to balance on one leg is very entertaining lol.

+The music was godly...and reacting to what I was doing.

+Destructable cover was very fun - especially the stone ones.

+Nate's hair shader...and generally nate in the whole is amazing looking.
+His facial expressions during punching and combat, and his heavy breathing...all really adds the this.

+What I think is really important...is both here and at neogaf we were complaining about him floating...or partial floating on non-horizantle edges. This is completely gone - and spectacularly gone! People were commenting that it was a problem we were always going to have, but Naughty Dog have solved it. On leaning edges his feet would angle correctly, if there was a hole, one of his feet would go in the hole. He would rest his feet on the bodeis. Really really well done. Does even AC do it this well? I've seen him on roof tops with floating feet...Drake's bend down the right angle!

+Walking on bodies! Wow...this was cool...I'd just stand on a body and jump up and down on them watching them react...and then I'd push them off the edges. Very funny! lol

+Control wise...very good, very responsive, he did what I wanted to do, and jumping from cover to cover was very easy. I was worried I wasn't going to like the shooting...but it is very good fun, and running around trying to punch them out and pick up their grenades was really cool.

-I need to work out the timing on melee...but I did a neck snap and a flying kick kill as well.
-Minor tearing when I was pissing about.
-I don't want hints! So I turned it off :p

I just played the demo as well ... just amazing. Really! Basically, everyting that deepbrown has said above. And lots of other things said in this thread as well by the way. The game just really delivers, and I like it a lot. All the foliage moves in the wind at different rates depending on the plants, very nicely done, and the shadows are simply amazing. Not all that much foliage moves when you pass through it, but the high blades of grass do very nicely. The bodies thing, I also pushed some off the edge :D and other than that you can basically have your foot rest on a dead guy's face, which is the perfect 'now who's boss?' pose :D

The textures are of an amazingly high resolution, just looks fantastic. It's clear that the water effects in principle aren't as amazing as some other games out there (it's flat and some ripples go upstream a little too much), but they do look reall good and at times fantastic (like when you stand on top of the waterfal and look down, then the foaming water and the water flowing over the edge looks nigh on perfect).

Also my compliments to the length of the demo. Quite amusingly, even in this demo downloadable from the US store you could select a lot of languages again for the game interface, voices, and subtitles each separately, which included spoken Dutch (which keeps being surprising, since we're such a small country).

Games' not perfect, but only because playing it basically just adjusts your standards for perfection, really. I thought that all the hyping would have led to some disappointments now, but I have to say, I'm hugely impressed!

Some things are very subtle by the way. Normally if you jump here, and then there, you turn your character and then jump. But in this game you can turn your character and jump almost at the same time and you'll have a smooth animation of Drake doing just that. It's nice. The animation system is not perfect, but it is very good. And the characters all look great, not just Drake, but also the other guys, which you can get a good look at when they're lying down on the ground. There's also more variation in race than you might think from what you've seen so far.

Oh and one of the first thing I noticed was how smooth and clever the motion blurring is when you turn the camera around you and such. And you can play with the camera looking at you from any angle so that explains some of the screenshots people have been wondering about. Also nice is how you can shift from your right to your left shoulder view while aiming.

Also, when you jump for cover and you pass some smaller cover you can press towards that cover and the animation will change right then and there too. Lot's of subtle stuff like that in there that you may not notice immediately because you're just not used to that kind of freedom!

I love that particular nuance of the animation system. Almost everything is "solid", and Nate reflects that very well. You can indeed stand partially on bodies, holes, and inclined planes.

One of the ones I'm really impressed by is that you can stand on very small, steep surfaces (like a boulder) and, instead of angling himself properly, his foot adjusts angles and he balances himself as he stands on one foot. I should have tried pulling out my gun to see how the animation system would further handle that. :)

Also, collision is very immediate. Let me elaborate: in prior games I've seen that collision with dead bodies is bound mainly to the (static) environment and other dead bodies. In this game, if say you die while hitting an enemy up close, you collide with the living enemy and react appropriately instead of simply falling/clipping through him.

I have a minor complaint though: while everything was very solid, there seemed to be a lack of interaction with objects like explosive barrels. Maybe I wasn't trying hard enough, but I simply couldn't get them to move. I'd like to have pushed one particular explosive barrel down a cliff, for instance, but couldn't. Maybe I was doing it wrong?

Also, I was a bit surprised about the opening movie. It turns out you can skip it but unlike HS you're placed immediately in-game. I had initially thought the opening movie was used in the same way HS's demo used it (keeping the user occupied as data was loaded), but evidently it was not.

Anyone here picked up on Nathan's footwork?

I sat there for minutes trying to cross him up or get some unnatural movement out of his feet.

It just didn't happen and I also like how it appears nate must shift his weight to change his trajectory.

The animation system is pretty sweet.

He still glides a little but I have to think this is so while you're traversing/platforming there's a little forgiveness for human error involved.

Yup the loading in this game is godly. You skip it straight away and it's there in the game! Amazing...if you die it'll put you straight back into the action. Fastest loading in a game I've seen before.

Oh and if you die in the water...Drake will float :p Nice touch.

At the risk of sounding like a retard, how does a European access the US PSN?

Bless. You need to set up a new account, register for the PSN again and put your address as a US address (make it up, complete with a different name, and a different email to your other one.) Write this all down...and then get going :)

Cheers dude!

Looking forward to this. Heard it has the best graphics and animation of any next-gen game?
