UC4: Best looking gameplay? *SPOILS*

All I can say is that Uncharted 4 in HDR (and whatever higher res it churns out) on the Pro will make me wet myself on my new OLED. Which I ordered. Cause I'm an idiot and a total shopaholic.
That's new TV, Pro and PSVR all in one month.
No food until Christmas.
Which TV did you order?

Who needs food anyway :)

You're not an idiot, u r just living the dream. Plus a few borrowed dollars can buy enough ramen noodles to last until next year. LOL.

Gears is also a great looking game, but just comparing to U4 even in stuff you see frequently like grenade explosions or environmental damage, U4 just doesn't have competition there, the wispy grenade explosions and other smoke effects in U4 is fantastic and the environmental damage can be quite dense sometimes too. And overall with all the other stuff U4 does exceptionally well like foliage and lighting etc. it's even harder to beat U4 really.

I think I've got like $30 bucks in my bank account after I buy this Pro?

I'd feel worse if my next paycheck wasn't coming the next day ^^

After the next couple of days, it'll pretty much be a battle between the Pro version of UC4 and R&C, maybe BF1 if the patch includes HDR. Otherwise comparable games without HDR just don't stand in the same league any more, begun the HDR wars have.

Ratchet and Clank has very low poly surroundings. It has norhing to do with best graphics. On a technical level, there are many games that are much better than Ratchet and Clank.

Uncharted 4 also has some problems but it is among the best.

Battlefield 1 is very good and it looks better than Battlefront in the most maps. However, Endor defeats the forest map from Battlefield 1 easily. No vegetation level from a game comes close to Endor.

If HDR is on the package it is not equally good. It depends on the implementation of Tone Mapping in the game. In addition, HDR does not equal the best graphics. There are many factors and HDR is just one of them.

What? Respectfully disagree.

Also HDR absolutely decimates SDR in terms of graphics pop, the lighting, contrast, color vibrancy, texture detail (as more detail pop) and the richness of the world just elevate the game to a new level. Of course it alone does not equal to best of everything, you still need high quality assets and etc, but what it offers account for a huge amount of wow factor. To me if you turn off the HDR the general look of the game is almost as if you dropped from Ultra to Medium or Low, relatively speaking. You can tonemap the shit of a SDR but you can't make up fro the brightness, the vibrancy or the color volume of the picture. There's a reason reviewers including DF have agreed to how HDR appeared more impressive than Ultra settings.

In comparison to other modern games this looks very low poly to me

Even from a few meters away you can see still see a lot of ugly edges. This would look much worse in first person. While in many other modern games even the screen of table lamps is nearly perfectly rounded.

The polygoncount per asset in many other games is in generel on a higher level than in Ratchet and Clank. You would not find many af such low poly assets for example in The Division, and thats an open world game. In my opinion, console start titles like Killzone Shadow Fall and Ryse have a better graphics than Ratchet and Clank. Ryse can be played at native UHD on PC.

And higher resolution than 1080p is nothing new. I played a lot of AAA games in UHD since 2011. Thats 5 years ago. Previously it was often said here that a higher resolution than FullHD is not so important.
In multiplayer shooters I prefer in generally an unlocked frame rate plus FullHD. Since I almost play games at least with 60+ fps 30fps is a bit disturbing for me. 30fps feels like last gen.

The Division probably does render more geometry on average but R&C still does not fall too much behind, I can always find a low poly ally way in TD just to show no game is immune to low polycount. What R&C excels is the on screen action, particles, debris, chaos and of course HDR now. However, if you ever used a flamethrower, a torch or stared into the sky in a HDR game, you would never go back to a SDR version of them. Another word if The Division gets a HDR patch, I would probably rank it above R&C for overall visual. I only ever wish most of the graphics heavy hitters like The Order, AC Unity, Batman AK, BF1, DriveClub and even Tomb Raider would get a HDR patch to really duke it out again.

Regardless of polycount Uncharted4 has R&C beat in texture/surface/material data for most assets (in bytes, perhaps not average texture map size). More demanding on memory bandwidth, and less compressible regardless of texture format.
