UC4: Best looking gameplay? *SPOILS*

Interesting that performance in photo mode lags behind gameplay performance so significantly. That does suggest they are doing some additional layer of image processing in photo mode.

Not it doesn't, in the video they just increased the field of view to the max which adds a lot of extra stuff to render on screen. The guys from gamersyde also commented on how photomode doesn't add anything extra until you do (filters, zooming out/in etc.). If anything, it shows how meticulously ND worked on getting the game running at 30fps at the absolute h/w limit.

Except those phtos have 'gorgeous' lighting that gives them substance, and convincing, varied shaders. If the UC4 shots looked like those examples, Jupiter wouldn't have linked ot them.

Find a photograph at a time of day when the hillside looks like a flat bit of terrain with a heavy handed grass texture painted on top, and you'll have an argument. ;)
Google image search on that section of scenery

What these photos all have that that image lacks is visual continuity and realism (go figure, what with being real...).
Whatever Shifty, whatever, you and your reasons...:p
I still blame the junior who unprofessionally handled this scene.

I'll be doing a direct comparison in 6 hours when the game unlocks photomode vs gameplay to put this to rest.

Edit: From gaf (dof seems bugged)

Wondering if refraction is faked in any way, you can only tell if you move the camera i guess. Still looks amazing, i think the bottles look better than the ones in The Order. Image for comparison

Drake's chest hair is impacted by the wind!! Really!?!? Such attention to detail! I don't think many would even notice that detail and still ND put effort to a chest hair that's affected by physics.
Is it also affected by moistness?
Boob physics can be impressive, but chest hair physics is madness!
Unless Drake has just one chest hair, in which case, meh.

His watch also works not many people are going to notice that either

Nxgamer video is really good, he goes more in depth than DF on the more technical aspects of the game. I noticed that he is improving the quality of his videos lately.

I watched some Gamersyde videos and it's truly the most impressive game i've ever seen. Now, people may say it's an hyperbolic statement, but it's my opinion anyway.

Until now, i wasn't quite sure that the game could compete with the best PC graphics but Gamersyde allowed me to take off my last doubts.

Can't wait...need to grade just one more Bachelor thesis, hopefully just in time to start the game!!

Aaaah, can't wait (and keep a clear head...lol, just kidding :)

Will I be blown away by the graphics?!?

To be continued...

DoF bugging with and transparent surfaces is pretty much given currently, only handful of games do something to fix it (video). (Only opaque surfaces write information properly to Z-buffer which is used for blurring the scene.)
Is UC deferred rendering? You'd want a second depth buffer, one for nearest object and one for transparent tests. I imagine that's not too hard to pull off in the same pass with MRTs. That DOF bug really is a killer. Glassware looks good but I wouldn't be surpried if it's quite artefacted in motion. Will be interesting if it works for me or I find the inaccuracies an 'uncanny valley' moment.

With the amount of different light sources on screen you'd expect it to be deferred. Lots of volumetrics going on in this game, high res too.
