The Tomorrow Children

Never mind. At the current GMT hours they're running this, I'm not going to play the beta at all. Friday nights and early Monday morning. Yeesh.

Forgot about the monsters, how could I? They are always in the picture, a constant and oppressive menace. You have to either avoid them (rather easy except for those annoying mosquitos) or fight them with different weapons with your mates (I could not access any advanced weapons during the Beta, only tools that can kill the small mosquitos). You can repair buildings that have being damaged by monsters.

The green stuff on the godzilla and spider is some rare minerals you can extract form their dead bodies.

The online aspect is weird, you are in fact constantly surrounded by your mates but can only see them at some specific moments, most of the time they are invisible, but they are here and are helping building a better city. Your city have different kind of XP that allow you to build more stuff, more building, more advanced factories etc.

Just killed by one of those mosquitos, compute is so powerful it can even simulate rigor mortis (lol no probably just a bug):

It's a beautiful looking game and it has a distinct art style. Performance can use some optimization in some areas but overall it's very stable from what I've played.

Are there performance issues when other players shown? Could that be why they are hidden? Or more an online thing during beta to limit server stress?

I played again during most of the Beta hours today. Things are getting much more interesting when your city is expanding. Again I was glued to the game and its gameplay and the cooperation between players is really well done and interesting! I played maybe like 6 hours total until now and I still want to play more!

Finally found the black market seller and bought some advanced weapons: a bazooka and a rifle. There was some special anti-Godzilla turrets lying around the city ready to use (built by others players), much better to kill the monsters. But the bazooka is efficient too.

Also available on the black market are tools that are much better than the russian's, like 10 times quicker to mine things than the others, also they are less fragile.

The game was less laggy than yesterday, and my agility was upped, everything seemed much snappier than before.

It's really a mix of very different types of games notably: Minecraft, Animal Crossing, Sim city, even some bit of Wow. Productions are high values, everything seems really polished, notably the gameplay. The game has that magic touch and seal of quality most Nintendo games have... I am surprisingly hyped now for the final game!

Yes there are some performance issues but I don't know if caused by others players. The devs intend to improve visibility of others players later which will be a really good thing.. Currently AFAIK you can see them each time they do any meaningful actions (building, mining, lifting things, fighting monsters etc.), and you can see them constantly when they are flying with the jetpack.

Also you can revive your mates or be revived by them which is pretty cool.

I really hope they are going to do something about the performance. Retrospectively it was quite bad in the Beta. The fact that every objects and stuff you mine are persistent (AFAIK until you use them) really doesn't help.

They could remove some effects to save some GPU time. To begin with I could give them a list of useless post effects to get rid off. ;)

The game is now F2P (with a twist) and will be released in about 3 weeks. I think F2P is a really good thing for this game.

At first the F2P will be limited to 5 friends of those buying the early access ($20). F2P for everyone later.

There is an early access pack followed by a premium pack both at $20. Apparently particular attention has being made in order to avoid the pay to win aspect, from GAF:

Hey everyone, dylan here (director of TTC).
I'm as much of a gamer as everyone else and hate typical f2p and pay walls and that kind of thing so believe me we have tried to make the f2p element of the game as tasteful as possible and reward players for simply being a part of the game and its community.

It's unclear to me: are there paid and f2p versions?
Sorry my previous post was unclear (I edited it). The early access ($20) gives F2P access to 5 friends (along with goodies) and later the F2P will be available for everyone.
