The Tomorrow Children

A hundred and sixty?!?! I mean, erm, course we've all read that one to keep up with the latest technologies. Good use of...maths. And the idea to use the GPU to do graphics. :yep2:

I wasn't expecting it this year, I was expecting No Man's Sky to be a 2015 release though. To be fair, no dates were ever given for either title as far as I can recall.

Beta codes going out and i am in! If i get an extra code i'll share it here. I am curious to see what this game actually is

Edit: It starts today in a few hours

Got my code too but it will have to wait for the weekend. I need to be democratic until then.

Played offline intro and now it says can't connect to the servers which according to their schedule should be online :(

Played during the whole Beta today. The game could be described as an odd mix between Minecraft and Animal Crossing in a stereotypical occidental view of Russian society during cold war. There is some survival, crafting and you can build your city (or others cities) with passive cooperation between players and global XP system to improve your character: everything you do reward you some kind of XP points.

I enjoyed my time with the beta
, the atmosphere of the game is really something else (even if I don't particularly like the strong cinematic artstyle...), the interesting gameplay, atmosphere and soundtrack really kept me glued to it.

It's a slow paced game: It's slow to do some actions, for instance when you pick some object on the ground, there is some pause (2s to 4s) before you can lift the thing, probably because the game is online and my Internet is crap.

Camera manipulation is slow too, I like when the camera is quick. There is an intentional slowness and inertia when you control the camera. In the beginning your character is very slow but it's getting better when you can improve your speed (agility) when you gain more XP. I'd encourage everybody to use you XP points in priority in agility like I did. The bus is slow too, again. They could speed it up by 2x easily.

Your bag is ridiculously small: You can only collect 3 resources and carry 4 tools simultaneously in the Beta. Horrendous. Also you can't directly stuff things in you inventory, you have to pick them up (2s to 4s) then put them inside your bag, one by one.

But overall it's a really strange and interesting experience. I liked it even with all the numerous flaws (well, it's a Beta), mainly they have to make things go much faster than it is and they could tone down the cinematic effects, the best would be sliders in the options, but as usual, one can dream.

I'd encourage people to at least try it, but I suspect this game is not going to be liked by everyone. It's a slow paced game, similar to animal crossing in that sense.

A problem I have with the way the game is described now is it sounds like virtual work. Maybe the simplicity of it is somewhat therapeutic versus real life work, but bussing out, mining, bussing back, checking in, doesn't immediately scream "fun" to me.
