Sony has denied it:

Sony has confirmed to IGN that The Last Guardian is still in production.

...

The status of the game has been a mystery as of late after the departure of the game's creator and executive producer.

For now, no release window has been announced for the game.

May be it's headed for Vita or PS4 ? :runaway:

Gamestop said:
"The Last Guardian has not been cancelled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers. Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known."

Rumours flying around that Sony have cancelled TLG! Shocked and sadened if true.
Careful with what you say. Some news are bad enough to harm the messenger, its legal and even morally required in such a case.

Judge Judy will of saved me!

Just create a Consumer Contract form that notes that by purchasing Sony products Sony cannot sue you but must go to binding arbitration with Judge Judy :p If Sony doesn't wish to agree they have 30 days to file a written request in triplicate!

Since I made fun of the title these few days...

As my time at Sony's Tokyo offices was winding down, I had to address the elephant in the room. Or rather, make that a large griffin-like animal. Fumito Ueda, the famed Japan Studio game creator behind Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian was mentioned repeatedly throughout the interviews. But the status of that third game, nearly five years in the making and waiting, remains unclear. And while work continues, Ueda doesn't even technically work for Japan Studio anymore, even if he is still there. The takeaway I got was that Ueda hasn't gone away. He's still there at Japan Studio, toiling away.P

The Last Guardian was first announced in 2009, and it hasn't yet been released. I ask whether or not Becker thinks that the more structured environment at Japan Studio will help Fumito Ueda and The Last Guardian.P

"We're real-time in that process," Becker replied. "And we don't necessarily agree with each other—Fumito Ueda and I—about process. In some sense, I sort of... implemented change, which, I think, is causing some concern and consternation. But, once again, I think the benefit will come through. We're still going through that phase of adjustment and finding the right balance and groove."10P

"I think," Becker adds, "it's moving along in the right direction."P

It seems that all of Japan Studio is, after more than a half decade of not making an impact, heading in the right direction. If you bought a PS3 to play Japan Studio games, you were left wanting. Not so, it seems with the PS4. Not so, it seems with the new Japan Studio.

Putting those "production issues" behind itself, the studio is pushing itself to be better—to focus its creative energy, distill its ideas, and most importantly, get games out into players' hands. Yet, there's a greater desire here. A desire to better one's craft. A desire to offer polished, refined work. A desire to show the world not only what the Japan Studio can do, but what made-in-Japan games can be. And hopefully, what they will be.P

PS4 game, no doubt. Which means they need to update all the art, which takes time. No idea when they made the decision to switch platform, could have been a year or more ago. They still haven't announced the switch, but hey... That's the only logical thing for them to do at this stage so I'm just assuming that such an announcement will be forthcoming sooner or later. Perhapsably at the nov. 15th event even! :) E3 '14 would be brutal. Such a long way off!

Then again, waiting is this game's one common denominator...

Don't make me hopes man...will you take care of me if the game gets canceled?

Very interesting... and pro skills digging up the thread haha.

I don't know what to say... I want the made-in-Japan game to take the world by storm. I miss the days of PS1 and PS2 where made-in-Japan carried so much weight.

And it'll be burnt black or boiled to mush. You can't cook something that long without it spoiling. I can't think of any game that has been 5+ years in the making due to delays and postponements and ever come out something special. The anticipation is always followed with disappointment.

GTA V? (2008 - 2013), L.A. Noire was six years in development (2004 - 2011) tho not as good an example.

Admittedly the history of games isn't on their side, but it's Team Ico! TEAM ICO!!!

GTA5 and LA were never in 'development hell' and delayed for 5 years. It just took a long time to make them, which is totally understandable.

RE4 then? That went on for more than 5 years and we know that it went through many development hells of being scrapped and restarted. Everything from Devil May Cry to Onimusha resulted from that, yet what appeared afterward is one of the most celebrated entrees of the series and from what many TPS take their direct inspirations from even without knowing at this point.

FF12 also went through a lot of issues in development for 5 years, but came out a good entree. Versus(15) also looks pretty good from what we've seen of its next gen iteration, regardless of it being announced back in 2006...

I think we should just wait and see how TLG comes out....

L.A. Noire was. Take Two's original release was 2008, then it bumped to 2009 then to 2011. And the whole project actually began in 2003 after The Getaway team disbanded.

Take charge of an imaginary creature blending elements from many different animals ● A strange and fantastic world for you to explore

They changed the gameplay ?

I think in the original presentations, they said the catbird couldn't be controlled directly. You have to coerce it using baits, lures and other tactics.
